This research shows that cell phone text messages can be used curb problem drinking as compared to a control group that did not receive the text messages. This begs to ask. How can cell phone text messages be used to help with other behaviors? Studying? Test reminders? Behavioral issues? Weight loss? Cell phones are a great friend of education BECAUSE THEY ARE ALWAYS WITH STUDENTS. Kids have a computer in their pocket that we choose to ignore because we are unwilling to teach them the proper way to behave. It is easier to lock up the phones than teach good judgement and the ability to focus. Hold kids accountable but make friends with cell phones, they are here to stay.
Motorola DROID
It's the first device to run using the greatly improved Android 2.0 operating system and Motorola has gone a long way to address most of the shortfalls that were inevitably leveled against previous Android phones in comparisons to the competition.
Pew Internet Research first surveyed teenagers about their mobile phones in 2004 and results showed that 45% of teens had a cell phone. Since then mobile phone use has climbed steadily among teens to 63% in \n2006 and 71% in 2008.
Surprising field studies suggest cell phones could be effective learning tools
In most schools, cell phones are checked at the door -- or at best powered off during school hours in a tacit "don't ask, don't tell" understanding between students and administrators. This wide-spread technology ban is a response to real concerns: if kids have unfettered instant access to the Internet at school, how do we keep them safe, how do we keep out inappropriate content, how do we prevent real-time cyberbullying, how do we even keep their attention in class when competing with messaging, gaming, and surfing?
This lesson has me intrigued as it uses a mobile phone and Microsoft Tag. I make sure all my students have a windows live id and a google id (using our google apps for domain) so this wouldn't be a problem for me. I like the idea of using mobile phones in esafety lessons.
