PURE DATA: 23 Open Sound Control, Part 1 - YouTube - 0 views

  •
This video is a great demonstration of the OSC protocol using the Pure Data software and the Osculator software on Macintosh. Shows an example of how to make a Wiimote and WiiDJ controller function with a mac and how to use those devices to control Pure Data. This tutorial is relatively technical, but gives a good introduction of what the OSC protocol is capable of.

SPEAR Homepage - 0 views

  •
SPEAR is an application for audio analysis, editing and synthesis. The analysis procedure (which is based on the traditional McAulay-Quatieri technique) attempts to represent a sound with many individual sinusoidal tracks (partials), each corresponding to a single sinusoidal wave with time varying frequency and amplitude. Something which closely resembles the original input sound (a resynthesis) can be generated by computing and adding all of the individual time varying sinusoidal waves together. In almost all cases the resynthesis will not be exactly identical to the original sound (although it is possible to get very close). Aside from offering a very detailed analysis of the time varying frequency content of a sound, a sinusoidal model offers a great deal of flexibility for editing and manipulation. SPEAR supports flexible selection and immediate manipulation of analysis data, cut and paste, and unlimited undo/redo. Hundreds of simultaneous partials can be synthesized in real-time and documents may contain thousands of individual partials dispersed in time. SPEAR also supports a variety of standard file formats for the import and export of analysis data. Read more in the ICMC paper "Software for Spectral Analysis, Editing, and Synthesis." (pdf) or in the dissertation paper Spectral Analysis, Editing, and Resynthesis: Methods and Applications.

Programming Electronic Music in Pd - 0 views

This is an in-depth tutorial on the Pure Data software program. It is a completely text and image tutorial and is organized much like a textbook. Will take significant time to go through, but if you have little understanding of what PD is, this is a good place to consult

This is a good intro video to pure data. Shows you the process of making a sound and connecting objects. Does not provide much background as to what objects are, what objects are available, or how to when to use different objects, but it is a good way to see PD in action

MIDIOX - 0 views

MIDI YOKE is a MIDI Patch Cable driver. It is a Windows (Versions 3.1x, 95, 98 and ME) multimedia driver. Also available is a driver for Windows NT and 2000 (unfortunately not as robust). MIDI Yoke NT: This driver works in Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. It is completely different code from the Windows 9x MIDI Yoke driver. It is hard coded to 8 ports and can't be changed. It is not as robust as the Windows 9x driver, is still Beta code and will not be supported -- use at your own risk. MIDI YOKE is used to connect any Windows MIDI Application outputs to any other Applications inputs. The MIDI data stream is passed directly from output to input -- Example: [ Sequencer Out ]==>[ Out MIDI Yoke In ]==>[ In MIDI-OX 32 ] Another: [MIDI Keyboard In]==>[In MIDI-OX Out]==>[Out MIDI Yoke In]==>[In Sequencer] This allows you to connect the MIDI output from one program to the MIDI input of a different program. MIDI Yoke can be configured to provide a varying number of MIDI Ports (from 1 to 16). In addition, each port allows multiple opens of both input and outputs: up to 4 openings per port. This flexibility provides for almost any configuration imaginable. Note: The NT driver is fixed at 3 ports and 3 openings for the moment. There is additional information in the F

Using Google Forms for Student Engagement and Learning (EDUCAUSE Quarterly) | EDUCAUSE - 0 views

  •
" Suboptimal student performance in lab-based statistics classes prompted a change in pedagogy to increase student engagement in class through active learning. Rather than using clickers, students learned how to use Google Forms in class to answer questions alone or in small working groups. In-class discussion of the answers focuses on clearing up misconceptions and steering students to a higher level of understanding. The increased interactivity, although it reduced class time to cover the material, yielded longer periods of sustained attention and a perception of improved performance among students."
