The 2011 lineup of Ford's Super Duty F-Series trucks may not look all that different from the models on the road today, but a lot has changed under the hood. In fact, in a vehicle segment dominated by talk of horsepower, torque, and towing capacity, the new F-Series Super Duty trucks may just change the game, and make such terms as "inclinometer," "Single-Sequential Turbocharger" (SST), and "compacted graphite iron" (CGI) the new language of heavy duty pickups.

When Ford redesigned the Super Duty in 2011, it was an instant hit among Ford diesel enthusiasts. With 400 horsepower and 800 ft-lb of torque on tap, in a much more refined platform, the new Ford became the truck of choice for diesel performance companies to showcase their latest and greatest diesel products. A perfect example is the 2012 Ford F-350 owned by Tom Wood of St. George, Utah.

Because of the engine swap, Kurtis had to decide whether to adapt a Ford kit to the Cummins or vice versa. It looked easier to fit a Cummins kit than adapting a Ford kit, especially since a certain amount of plumbing changes had already been made to the Ford on the suction side.

The most common questions revolve around whether to adapt the Cummins to the Ford transmission or swap in the Dodge trans with the engine. It's done both ways, but many people think that the various Dodge truck automatics can't match the Ford 4R100 and 5R110 for beef-stock or modified.
