Evan Balderama, better known as "Pono," grew up on the west side of Oahu near Honolulu. Like most in the area, he spent his younger years surfing and cruising around town in custom vehicles with his friends. That close-knit group later turned into a truck club, and to celebrate their love of custom Chevy trucks they called themselves the Bowtie Boyz.

Vaughn Gittin Jr., who this year traded his 2005 Mustang for a 2010 Mustang GT with a supercharged 4.6L engine, edged up the leader board at Sonoma's Infineon Raceway Aug. 8 with a solid seventh-place finish Aug. 22. The Top 10 finish added to Gittin's points total and moved him up two spots to third place overall with one round remaining in the 2009 Formula Drift Championship.

Building big power with a diesel is not hard, unless you start to get close to the upper end of the envelope. It's at that point where the trick parts and pieces are used, along with some secret tricks of the trade privy only to top-notch engine builders.
