HyperPadlets & Padlet Timelines - Jake Miller - 1 views

  • Format Flexibility! There are 8 different Padlet formats: Wall, Canvas, Stream, Grid, Shelf, Backchannel, Map & Timeline. Screenshot from padlet.com
    • nurlider

These templates can be templates for a variety of projects.
  • Content Flexibility! Once you select a format, your posts on the Padlet can be pretty much anything!
  • Your students will not need an account to access your Padlets or post/comment on your Padlets.  They would, however, need an account in order to make their own.

  • Remake – Want to reuse a Padlet in multiple classes or across multiple years?
    • nurlider

I can also use copy of student entries as a platform for in-class activities.
  • Customization – Padlet gives you lots of options in the settings area.  You can customize the appearance, change the URL to make it easier to access, turn comments on/off, turn reactions (stars, upvotes, likes, grades) on/off, require approval for posts, filter profanity.
  • Real-time Collaboration – If you choose to allow collaboration, you and your collaborators (students! teachers! parents!) can collaborate in realtime.
  • 2. Second, I didn’t know that Padlet had a Timeline option! After Matt’s tweet, I discovered that a Timeline option was added by Padlet in December 2019

I used the timeline option for one of Week 4 activities I designed. It was for a biography reading. It worked really well.

Checking Reading Comprehension Remotely Using Student-Designed Comics - The FLTMAG - 4 views

  • The book is an excellent summative text for the course because it brings together the historical, ideological, philosophical, and artistic viewpoints that students had engaged with throughout the semester.
  • At first glance, this might seem like a simple assignment, but it requires higher order thinking. It required students not just to understand the story of the character in question, but also to apply this understanding by retelling the story in their own (German) words. Students did not just demonstrate reading comprehension; the assignment forced them to identify key details in the story in order to make the story fit the limited number of panels available.

The app name is Make Beliefs Comix and the author is Carol Anne Costabile-Heming.

I love Makebeliefscomix. it is a much better option than when I had students draw a comic strip and take a picture of it to turn in. I will be using this one. Thanks!
  •
I just tried the site to see how it works. I find it user friendly, easy to navigate through.
  •
I like Makebeliefscomix too. It is easy to use and the students have fun creating heir message.

Embedded Reading | Simplify, Scaffold, Succeed!! - 6 views

  •
Helping students read successfully in their 2nd language.
  •
I like this website, it's simple and it provides great ideas on helping students with reading!
  •
I have been waiting to find more information on Scaffolding since I first heard this term at the ACTFL conference in 2018. My biggest criticism is that most of the German textbooks do NOT provide reading text with scaffolding. I rewrote many articles myself. I love the SSS.

Tech Tool of the Month: Adobe Spark Video Part 1 - 2 views

  •
This tool can create and add beautiful videos with photos, text and music for presentational or other communicative activities. The user can begin with a template and ready made images or start from scratch with their own images.
  •
I tried this tech tool but I couldn't figure out how to make a video that is beyond basic.
  •
There's a Part 2 that gives further introduction and directions to the tool and its features (see the link attached). Hope it be of help for your further exploration of the tool. https://teachersfirst.com/blog/2020/03/tech-tool-of-the-month-adobe-spark-video-part-2/

Vocaroo: Voice Recording Made Easy - The FLTMAG - 4 views

  •
I like that Vocaroo is easy to use, requires no password, and is free.
  •
3 huge reasons to like it!
  •
I'm not sure if it does more than what can be done on Schoology, our LMS. Does anyone have experience with this?

Dealing with Cyberbullying in Schools: How to Respond - 0 views

  • As a teacher or school staff member, there are things you can do in the battle against online bullying. Support: Provide the person being bullied with support and reassurance. Tell them that they did the right thing by telling. Encourage the child to get help from parents, the school counsellor, principal or teachers. Ensure they know that there is support there for them Evidence: Help the child keep relevant evidence for investigations. This can be done by taking screenshots or printing web pages. Do not allow the deletion of phone messages Inform: Give the child advice for making sure it does not happen again. This can include changing passwords, contact details, blocking profiles on social networking sites or reporting abuse online No Retaliation: Ensure that the young person does not retaliate or reply to the messages Privacy: Encourage the child to keep personal information private on the internet Investigation: The cyberbullying claim needs to be investigated fully. If the perpetrator is known, ask them to remove offending remarks or posts. All records should be kept as part of the investigation. Report: Abuse on social networking sites or through text messaging needs to be reported to the websites and mobile phone service providers Guidelines: Your school will have a number of policy documents which you can refer to. These include the Acceptable Use Policy, Anti-bullying policies and Behaviour and Disciplinary Policies

10 Student-Tested Chrome Extensions | Edutopia - 3 views

  • When activated, the extension searches through the text and highlights one or two important sentences
    • jenniferacarr

Interesting! (Especially given the parameters of our Diigo assignments...) I wonder, though, how the extension identifies which sentences are important. That can be such a subjective call to make.
  •
This is for the Chrome browser - many I didn't know about, but will definitely try!
  •
The Dualless extension that splits the screen sounds very useful for students . . . and teachers! I'm adding this extension right now!
