5 Social Media Tools for College Students - US News - 1 views

  • viewers click around a large "mind-map," which can feature text, images, and videos,
  • equates Prezi to an "infinite whiteboard" wherein the audience can see an overview of a topic, or zoom in to see the relations between topics.

Since this tool would be available to numerous students, it would be very helpful that a wide array of related topics are mapped out so that each student focuses on what's most relevant to their interests/needs.
  •
Prezi is a good resource for students to look at a wide array of related topics and choose the angle that best suits their research or class direction. Gradeguru and Notehall are mainly about student exchange of helpful notes and study materials. Dropbox is mainly a storage tool that also allows sharing and exching files. Chegg is a book rental tool.

Learning and Leading - August 2010 - 3 views

Point/Counterpoint - a discussion on "is technology killing critical-thinking skills?" I think they're coming from the same point of view, but expressing it differently. A lot of frustration with internet filters...
  •
We can continue a discussion here in the Diigo group about articles, tools, or whatever the group finds and bookmarks. You can also put "sticky notes" right on the article page itself - no one but the logged-in group members can actually see the notes. This is one way we can keep the "group momentum" going after the institute ends. Add your thoughts!

This is a note I created that I can add to the page to draw attention to a certain area, or ask a question, etc. I have also set this note to be visible only to the "carlatech" Diigo group.

You can add a "reply" to my note so we could discuss here...

This is terrific, Marlene. I intend to look into this Blog for my Action Research project for the IBSC (International Boys' Schools Coalition) I am part of. I am supposed to work all year long on my action and report on my findings next summer at the annual gathering in London (We are a team of 16 language teachers from all over). Your summer institute has been a wake up call for me in so many senses!! Also, thanks for inviting me to join this group!

Own Your Space - Online Safety Ebook for Teens - 0 views

  •
From Richard Byrne's blog: "Own Your Space is a free, sixteen chapter ebook designed to educate tweens and teens about protecting themselves and their stuff online. This ebook isn't a fluffy, general overview book. Each chapter goes into great detail explaining the technical threats that students' computers face online as well as the personal threats to data that students can face online." It's free, downloadable, and it looks to me like it should be read by any student with internet access - and their parents and teachers!!!
