Researchers say a combination of biomarkers may offer insights to build a noninvasive screening tool for pancreatic cancer as it related to new-onset diabetics.
Once diagnosed with cancer, patients can feel isolated and alone, even from those closest to them. Using the internet as a tool, now they can reach out to anyone, anywhere in the world who wants to share their experience with this devastating disease. They can research, ask questions, post their own story, or they can simply read the stories of those who have been where they are going. From breast cancer to leukemia, these 50 sites cover a variety of subjects.
A collaborative study led by UCL (University College London) shows that the compound - inositol pentakisphosphate - found in beans, nuts and cereals inhibits a key enzyme (phosphoinositide 3-kinase) involved in tumour growth. The findings, published in the latest issue of Cancer Research, suggest that a diet enriched in such foods could help prevent cancer, while the inhibitor offers a new tool for anti-cancer therapy.
Vitamin D production in human skin occurs only when UV radiation exceeds a threshold. From simulations of UV irradiances, the VitD www page ( http://zardoz.nilu.no/~olaeng/fastrt/VitD.html) computes the daily duration of dermal vitamin D production at midday when UV radiation exceeds the required threshold. The daily duration depends on latitude, time, total ozone, clouds, aerosols, surface reflectivity and altitude all of which can be specified by the user
