Paul Chehade - Symbolic rebuke to President Obama over immigration. Where are we heading? What is our future? Emboldened House Republicans issued a stern but symbolic rebuke to President Barack Obama over immigration Thursday, passing a bill declaring his executive actions to curb deportations "null and void and without legal effect." Our nation has been traditionally headed by two political groups, the Democrats and the Republicans. In light of this political failure, what will the future bring to the American people and coming generations? What are the expectations to live a life with dignity and hope. The Democrats and the Republicans have promised, politically and publicly, to serve the nation for decades, but the reality is that both of them after consecutive failures, only prove that they serve the powerful economic groups that for generations have drained the economy of our nation and have left our citizens in the most precarious and fragile economic situation in the American history. In light of this political failure, what will the future bring to the American people and coming generations? What are the expectations to live a life with dignity and hope. Without desire to deepen into the subject I would like to mention the pillars for the growth and strengthening of our society which are essential for the development of every human being: Food, health, housing and education. In light of the economic crisis that our nation is confronting, mainly due to the bad administration of the last two governments, still today our President Obama is neglecting the fundamental issue of providing basic food supplies for the American people, especially for our children, the future of our nation, that are the most affected in this national crisis. We need to understand that the cost of food has increased almost 50 % in many cases and in other cases up to 100% in the last years. All of this without any real increase in salaries for the fortunate ones that still h

American held by al Qaeda in Pakistan urges Obama for help - 0 views

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - A U.S. development worker kidnapped in Pakistan by al Qaeda two years ago appealed to President Barack Obama to intervene and help negotiate his release, in a video released on Thursday. In a 13-minute clip issued by al Qaeda's media wing and posted on several news websites, Warren Weinstein, 72, looked gaunt and tired. "I am not in good health. I have a heart condition. I suffer from acute asthma... Needless to say I've been suffering deep anxiety every part of every day," he said. "Mr President, for the majority of my adult life, for over 30 years I've served my country ... Now when I need my government it seems that I have been totally abandoned and forgotten." The video could not be independently verified. Weinstein was abducted in 2011 in the eastern city of Lahore where he worked for a U.S. consulting company. Pakistan's tribal areas on its border with Afghanistan serve as safe havens for al Qaeda, the Taliban and other militant groups, and the Islamabad government has been under pressure from the United States to do more to eliminate the insurgency.

Americans say US Congress is worst ever: poll - 0 views

  •
Washington (United States) (AFP) - Two thirds of Americans say the current Congress is the worst ever, while three quarters slammed the "do-nothing" legislature, a CNN/ORC International poll found Thursday. The negative attitudes were expressed toward leading lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, with 52 percent saying the policies of Democrats would move the country in the wrong direction, compared to 54 percent for Republican policies. And 54 percent of respondents said the same thing about the policies of President Barack Obama, a Democrat. The 113th Congress did pass a budget agreement before its holiday recess, but less than 60 bills have been signed into law during its first year. And with a continued political stalemate likely in 2014, when mid-term elections will take place, the current Congress is poised to become one of the least productive in at least the past four decades, CNN noted. A total of 68 percent of those questioned said the current Congress was the worst in their lifetime, with only 28 percent disagreeing. The negative outlook toward Congress "exists among all demographic and political subgroups. Men, women, rich, poor, young, old -- all think this year's Congress has been the worst they can remember," CNN polling director Keating Holland said. "Older Americans -- who have lived through more congresses -- hold more negative views of the 113th Congress than younger Americans. Republicans, Democrats and independents also agree that this has been the worst session of Congress in their lifetimes."

If U.S. troops leave Afghanistan, much civilian aid may go too - 0 views

  •
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - For years, U.S. officials have pointed to the improvements in the everyday lives of Afghans made possible by billions of dollars in aid from the United States and elsewhere. In Afghanistan, people now live 20 years longer on average than under Taliban rule, they say; 7 million more children attend school and women are 80 percent less likely to die in childbirth. The specter of an abrupt departure of all U.S. and NATO soldiers from Afghanistan at the end of next year now imperils these gains, they warn, and endangers progress on the massive development challenges that remain. Unless the Obama administration can persuade Afghan President Hamid Karzai to sign a security pact that would permit a modest U.S. force to remain beyond 2014, the United States is almost certain to drastically scale back aid to Afghanistan. That would force aid groups to work under more precarious security conditions and compete for scantier aid dollars. It would be "a complete catastrophe" to pull the entire U.S. force from Afghanistan next year, said Andrew Wilder, who directs Afghanistan and Pakistan programs at the U.S. Institute of Peace and spent years working in the region. A deterioration in security conditions would hamper oversight of aid projects, possibly making a deeply skeptical Congress even more reluctant to fund Afghan aid. A smaller staff at the U.S. embassy in Kabul would also make it more difficult to sustain many U.S. aid programs. "My judgment is no troops, no aid, or almost no aid," James Dobbins, the U.S. envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan, told Congress this month. "The political support for the aid comes from the military presence." Last year, the United States and other donors promised to provide Afghanistan $16 billion in aid through 2015, at least half of which must go through Afghan government coffers. Afghanistan's government also promised to work toward benchmarks in governance, human rights and fighting corruption. Since the Tali

LinkedIn is of course a social networking site that is designed mostly for the business community. The goal of Linkedin.com is to allow their registered members to establish networks of people whom they already know and trust in a professional environment. A LinkedIn member's profile page usually emphasizes the employment history and education of the person - such as on Nathan Halsey's linkedin page - https://www.linkedin.com/pub/nathan-halsey/7/b39/961 , As you can see his professional network consists of both news feeds and a number of customizable modules. Basic membership for LinkedIn is and always has been free. Network members are usually referred to as "connections." However, unlike other free social networking sites for example Facebook and even Twitter, LinkedIn.com requires connections to have a pre-existing relationship. This is a fundamental difference between the social media sites. With basic membership, a member, such as Nathan Halsey can only establish connections with someone he has previously worked with or knows professionally (either online or offline) or has gone to school with etcetc. Connections up to three degrees away are seen as part of that member's network, so when looking at Nathan Halsey on Linkedin one can see the other people he too knows. A member like Nathan is not allowed to contact them through LinkedIn without an introduction. However, Premium subscriptions can be purchased to provide members with easier access to contacts in the LinkedIn database - or even find their connection details. LinkedIn was co-founded by a man named Reid Hoffman who is the former Executive Vice President for PayPal. The site was launched in 2003 and currently has over 300 million members from 200 countries, representing 170 industries. According to Reid Hoffman, 27% of LinkedIn subscribers are recruiters. Nathan Halsey has been married for over ten years to his wife Kristin Halsey. They have 3 children, Jensen aged 8, Hudson, aged
