A Year of Reading: Mentor Texts in the Digital Writing Workshop: Reading Like a Writer - 2 views

  •
"Teachers must also ensure that children have access to reading materials that are relevant to the kind of writer they are interested in becoming at a particular moment. Teachers must recruit the authors who will become the children's unwitting collaborators." Frank Smith, Joining the Literacy Club Our students naturally mentor themselves to texts that matter to them.

Free Technology for Teachers: Five Tools for Modern Postcard Lessons - 1 views

  •
Yesterday, I found a postcard creation tool and lesson on Read Write Think. The RWT Postcard Creator walks students through the process of addressing, writing, and mailing a postcard. It's a nice little activity, but as I was trying it I couldn't help but wonder how relevant it is to today's students who may go never send a postcard because all of their communications happen digitally.

In addition, all of the authors from Okay, I am lucky enough to have another month off before school starts, but I know that many of you are getting ready to head back in to those classrooms. If you are, please take some pictures and post them on your blog (teacher blog or classroom blog - either works fine!) This linky party sounds like a great chance to virtually visit classrooms around the world.

Educreations - 1 views

Educreations is a community where anyone can teach what they know and learn what they don't. Our software turns any iPad or web browser into a recordable, interactive whiteboard, making it easy for teachers and experts to create engaging video lessons and share them on the web. This tool makes it possible to really delve into a student's thinking/problem solving process. Looks interesting.
