Share what you make with the world. I have only explored this site a bit, but it looks like a kids paradise. Rather like pinterest, kids can post projects they've made in photo or short video clip format. Viewers can then give them stickers to rate them. Lots of possibilities on a rainy day at home.
I had never seen this app. It showed up on my reader, and I had to take a look. It works like Free Rice. Planting and caring for trees leads to real trees being planted to reforest several areas in the world. Check it out.

Yesterday, I found a postcard creation tool and lesson on Read Write Think. The RWT Postcard Creator walks students through the process of addressing, writing, and mailing a postcard. It's a nice little activity, but as I was trying it I couldn't help but wonder how relevant it is to today's students who may go never send a postcard because all of their communications happen digitally.
