The mission of Girls Explore is to make and sell dolls and other educational products to inspire young girls to achieve greatness. Doll sets, posters, prints and book biographies of Amelia Earhart and Bessie Coleman are just a few of the many unique products available to encourage young girls to explore aviation.

Research has proven that we can expose our girls to the opportunities available to them, but unless we can give them real life examples of women who have achieved their dreams, girls have difficulty picturing themselves doing the same.

"Girls With Wings is pleased to announce that we have developed an additional scholarship for 2012. Girls With Wings has traditionally offered a Private Pilot Scholarship to help defray the cost of flight training lessons in pursuit of a private pilot certificate. This scholarship is targeting those individuals who have soloed but have not completed the Private Pilot Course. The Private Pilot Scholarship is an award in the amount of $1000.00."

Pilots at Renton Municipal Airport in Washington state took 170 women and girls on introductory flights Dec. 5, and the airport is now recognized by the Centennial of Licensed Women Pilots for introducing the most girls and women to flying in one day.

Partnership of Phoenix Ninety-Nines, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and Arizona Cactus Pine Girl Scout Council to create Aviation Discovery Camp. A good example of collaborative efforts to encourage and mentor young girls in aviation.

This year's Awardees were announced in October via the Girls With Wings eZine (signup). The winning submissions were judged on their willingness to be a superlative GWW role model. Janice and Rose showed potential to continue their interaction with the GWW organization, via the website and events, so they assist GWW in encouraging more young girls to have an interest in aviation. GEMS (Girls Exploring Math & Science) summer camp and we're rolling out the red carpet with this year's theme, "The Science & Adventure of the Movies." Our camp is for any girl, ages 8-13, to explore math, science, and technology through fun, interactive activities.

In 2010, the girls entered the worldwide FIRST LEGO League science and engineering challenge, which focused on robotics applied to medical issues. Having decided to work on hand and arm prosthetics, they met with prosthetics manufacturers and doctors.

"The study finds that girls are interested in STEM and aspire to STEM careers, but need further exposure and education about what STEM careers can offer, and how STEM can help girls make a difference in the world."

Our Girls With Wings Summer Scholarship Application Window is now open. Yes, we just have to find more people who deserve funds for flight training! We just announced three winners for our Spring Program and we're looking for applicants for the Summer Program. Please tell everyone you know about the scholarship so we have another great pool of potentials from which to choose. Please send this Press Release to any and all of your area schools (flight and otherwise), organizations, friends, family, etc. You can post this flyer, too, on bulletin boards. Flying is expensive, as well all know, and these funds could make the difference in someone's life!
