Science and Engineering day camp for children between the ages of 7-13. Each week long session will focus on a different topic and this year we are offering six sessions in the following areas: Robotics, Engineering, Mathematics, Space Life Sciences, Aviation Week 1 (Flying and Air Traffic Control) and Aviation Week 2 (Safety Science and Aviation Maintenance).

Volunteers from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson spent their weekend helping inspire children from local school districts to get involved in aviation. Volunteers participated in the Build-a-Plane program at Begich Middle School. The program is designed to help motivate children to take an active interest in aviation and life. The program got off the ground of the school after speaker Barrington Irving, the youngest and first African-American to pilot a plane around the world, stopped by the school for a speech, according to Angie Slingluff, FAA Education coordinator.

Women in Corporate Aviation aims to create diversity in corporate and business aviation and provides networking, mentoring and scholarships.

"Phoebe Fairgrave Omlie received the first federal pilot's license to be issued to a woman as well as the first female to receive an aircraft mechanics license. She was a member of the Glenn Messer Flying Circus where she developed and performed a double parachute drop. She was a wing walker and stunt flyer for the Perils of Pauline film series and set many aviation records. Omlie was also FDR's pilot during his 1932 campaign. She then served as a liaison between the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics and the Bureau of Air Commerce among many other accomplishments in aviation. "

"Hazel Lee (1912-1944) - Aviation Pioneer" Experienced women pilots, like Lee, were eager to join the WASP, and responded to interview requests by Cochran. Members of the WASP reported to Avenger Field, in wind swept Sweetwater, Texas for an arduous 6-month training program. Lee was accepted into the 4th class, 43 W 4. Hazel Ying Lee was the first Chinese American woman to fly for the United States military.

"Starting July 23, 2012 there will be forum seminars on aviation related subjects presented in the air conditioned FAA Aviation Safety Center during the entire EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2012 event. These events will also be streamed through www.faasafety.gov and, for the first time this year, you will have the option of attending most safety center presentations via webinar. Webinar attendance will be valid for Wings and/or AMT credit. To find the webinar access information for each topic, go to the individual event posting on faasafety.gov. "Wings 'n Things is hosted annually by the Florida Air Museum at SUN 'n FUN beginning the first Friday in November ( Nov 2, 3, 4 for 2012). It is a 3 day camping weekend showcasing the dynamic world of aviation especially for youth ages 5 to 18. Aviation enthusiasts gather to share their knowledge and interests with youth groups and families throughout Florida and the southeast. Activities support Girl Scout, Boy Scout and Royal Rangers badge requirements and peak the interest of kids who just like airplanes."

The free PATH Handbook includes 11 modules for middle-school-aged students, along with worksheets, exercises, quizzes, and learning objectives on topics such as weight and balance, flight controls, weather, and aviation history. Supplemental materials are available for other age groups, including connect-the-dots puzzles for kindergarten through third grade and an aviation career guide for those in grades 9 through 12."

NBAA's scholarship program, generously supported through sponsorships, offers nearly $100,000 annually in cash awards as tuition reimbursement for enrolled students, and that number is nearly matched in monetary and training awards for working professionals. NBAA currently offers six scholarships to qualified students studying aviation-related curricula at institutions of higher learning. The Association also sponsors seven monetary and training scholarships to promote professionalism and the advancement of careers for aviation professionals, such as flight department managers, flight attendants, maintenance technicians, schedulers and dispatchers.
