"National Lab Network is more than just a day. It's a nationwide initiative to build local communities of support that will foster ongoing collaborations among volunteers, students and educators. Volunteers, university students, scientists, engineers, other STEM professionals and, more broadly, members of the community are working together with educators and students to bring discovery-based science experiences to students in grades K-12."
Students will be able to describe the motion of the particles in solids, liquids, and gases.
- The particles of a gas move quickly and are able to spread apart from one another.
- The particles of a liquid are able to move past each other.
- The particles of a solid are not able to move out of their positions relative to one another, but do have small vibrational movements."
"broad range of subjects covered by all the resources accessible in the library. You can change the graph as you wish to show the resources by grade level or by type of resource." ** great repository of educational resources
In 2010, the girls entered the worldwide FIRST LEGO League science and engineering challenge, which focused on robotics applied to medical issues. Having decided to work on hand and arm prosthetics, they met with prosthetics manufacturers and doctors.
"AeroLab lessons feature simple foam and balsa aircraft as tools to teach the concepts of force and motion, potential/kinetic energy and centripetal force. The activities allow students to practice important math skills to determine average speed and distance flown. All labs are aligned with middle school physical science and math standards and are "S.T.E.M. Compliant." The labs feature conceptual activities in the physical sciences to provide opportunities for students to make predictions, collect data, graph results and draw conclusions, as well as participate in lessons designed for directed and guided inquiry."
"sites that are worth taking the time to explore deeper. Below is my collection of FREE sites and blogs that I have 'deemed' as worthwhile and of quality that support the standards through lessons, performance tasks, strategies and other resources. (In no particular order)"
"Big Ideas videos bring to life the "big ideas" of Earth science - the nine core concepts that everyone should know. Teachers can use the videos in many ways. For example: Use "Why Earth Science?" to introduce the importance of Earth science to your students, their parents and guardians, and your school's guidance counselor."
"The site includes really well done lessons, activities, practice pages (online), study aids, glossary, and word problems. Algebra Lab is like a free, living textbook. It has enough substance to help students work their way through algebra, while understanding the connections to how that algebra is used in a practical sense."
"An eight-year restoration project culminated with the first flights of what is now the world's only flyable de Havilland Mosquito fighter bomber in New Zealand. Mosquito KA114 flew from Ardmore Airport to Mangere on Thursday. It was the first time a Mosquito had flown since 1996 when the last surviving example crashed at the Barton Air Show in England. "
The Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship Program is now accepting applications for the 2013-2014 Fellowship Year. The Einstein Fellowship Program is available to current K-12 science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) educators with a demonstrated excellence in teaching and leadership.
