sometimes I wonder why a Lodge has any gambling.legal or illegal. Seems to take away from the altruistic meaning of a fraternal organization

geesh.. why would anyone keep that much cash around?

An East Hanover resident pleaded guilty today to stealing from an Elks Lodge and has agreed to cooperate with the state in its prosecution of former Morris County Tax Commissioner Anthony Crecco on the same theft charges. Advertisement Konstantin ''Stan'' Belenky, 42, was publicly revealed by authorities for the first time today as the unnamed co-conspirator referred to in a state grand jury indictment returned in April against Crecco, 62, of East Hanover. Belenky, an employee of the prominent real estate appraisal firm Certified Valuations, Inc., agreed as part of his plea to give up his public jobs as municipal tax assessor in Franklin, Somerset County, and in Berkeley Heights, Union County.

Tax chief indicted on theft charges Thursday, April 30, 2009 BY TANYA DROBNESS AND CHRIS MEGERIAN Star-Ledger Staff The state attorney general yesterday announced the indictment of Morris County Tax Commis sioner Anthony Crecco on charges of conspiring to steal nearly $300,000 from his Elks Lodge to gamble in Atlantic City.

"Two masked, armed men robbed a 69-year-old man outside the Racine Elks Lodge, 5844 Douglas Ave., early Saturday night, then entered the hall and robbed a bingo cashier of an undetermined amount of cash in front of about 70 people, Caledonia Police Sgt. Daniel Warren said in a news release."

"SARATOGA SPRINGS -- Members of the Saratoga-Wilton Elks Lodge 161 were shocked to learn Friday that police had arrested their past exalted ruler and longtime financial secretary on charges he stole more than $3,000 in goods and services."

"Board of Education member Andrew DePalma appears to be the target of a state investigation into possible stolen gaming money from the West Haven Elks Lodge, according to documents."

Not very nice.. I bet their was some addiction involved there.
