Elks will act as mentors in the program while providing learning opportunities and teaching community-building skills. Building a Better Future will be funded by an Impact Grant awarded to the Florence Elks by the Elks National Foundation, the charitable arm of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. "Tiffin Elks Lodge 94 is celebrating 127 years in Tiffin. Exalted Ruler Joe Steinmetz, who joined the lodge seven years ago, is helping plan the event with other members. Why celebrate 127 years? "We want to commemorate 127 years of benevolence in Tiffin and celebrate another 100 years of active involvement in our community," Steinmetz said. Friday, dinner and live entertainment will take place for members and guests. Events Saturday are open to the public at 106 E. Perry St. Indoor and outdoor activities are to continue all day Saturday, with proceeds to benefit Disabled American Veterans. At 8 a.m., registration opens for a 5K run or 1K walk. An opening ceremony is at 9:30 a.m. and the race steps off at 10 a.m., following a route along Riverside Drive and downtown Tiffin. Registration for the 5K and 1K can be done up to the day of the race at $15 per person. The age groups are: 12 and under; 13-19; 20-34; 35-50; and over 50. Forms can be obtained at the Elks, Clover Club, Madison Street Tavern, Varsity Barber Shop, Champs Barber Shop, Pit Stop, Reino's and Ace Hardware. Checks should be made payable to Tiffin Elks Lodge 94. A grill and beverage bar opens at noon to serve all day. A mini-golf challenge and cornhole tournament are to begin at 1 p.m. in the parking lot. The cost is $20 per team for the cornhole tournament. Next, 8-11 p.m. is the "rooty music" of Dragon Wagon, with a mix of bluegrass, rock and folk. Steinmetz said the Elks National Foundation issues grants to qualifying lodges to meet community needs. Steinmetz said the Elks have partnered with organizations such as Winterfest and Tiffin-Seneca Heritage Festival and are looking for grant opportunities for both events this year. "The La Grande Elks Lodge was able to donate 87 of its seats back to the old Liberty Theatre because it is entering a new, uncertain chapter in its history. The fraternal organization is selling its building due to declining membership, said trustee Gordon Foster."

Moreno Valley Elks Lodge No. 2697 has a new home. After beingon Alessandro Boulevard near Frederick Street since 1985, the group is moving to a new building at Canyon Springs Plaza by Highway 60. "This new place will give us the opportunity to grow and be more involved with the community," said Luella McCabe, the group's Building Chairman and Past Exalted Ruler. Renovation of the new location took about 2 ½ years, but members said it's well worth the wait.

The future of the Albert Lea Elks Lodge remains uncertain, but Elks officials have told service clubs and other groups to find a new meeting place. Elks officials told these groups the building will be closed to them starting Sept. 1. Negotiations for a possible sale of the building are happening, leaving everyone from employees to the regional leaders waiting to see what happens.

Streator Elks Lodge 591 recently donated $500 to the James Street Recreation Center in Streator. The recreational center is still in its building stage and is in need of additional ball equipment, concession equipment and the forming of grounds. Future building plans will include lighting, bleachers and fencing.

I don't know if this is good or bad. Downsizing is not good and 35 year old buildings do have some issues. Still..

Now why would the leadership of any lodge sell their building without requesting permission from GL? And this is a lodge that is 115 years old? SMH If true, that's just a perfect illustration how far this organization has fallen. We do not seem to be attracting people with business and administration abilities or if we do then they are not willing to take on leadership responsibilities.

What did GL expect by taking away this old lodge's building? Sometimes I wonder why I belong to an organization that exhibits such ineptitude!!

Now why would the BPOE try to destroy this lodge? How much money is being wasted on attorneys? The GER to be was behind this as well. Zellen?
