"The Grand Elks Lodge, the Chicago-based national organization, sent out letters in late January advising members of the Albert Lea chapter that they could join other chapters. The charter for the Albert Lea Elks Lodge No. 813 - which had been the largest in Minnesota - was revoked on Jan. 27."
"Batavia Elks Lodge 950 has served Genesee County for 105 years and when its exalted ruler walked up the steps to the lodge Friday afternoon, he was shocked to see that the club's charter was revoked and the doors barred."
good news that something is being preserved from McCook. The bad news is that it lost it's charter. This was one hell of a lodge in it's day. The fact is that the GL is mostly responsible for the demise of this lodge and the dramatic loss of membership.
nebraska is down 77% from 1985. and that was as of 2014. Down to 7,000 from 32,000. HUGE drop that can only be attributed to leadership (or lack of).
?? this is bizarre.. They made ENF goal every year for the last 3 years. 3rd largest lodge in WV out of 21. 626 members as of 4/1/13. FB page does appear to have been neglected with few recent postings.
"LANCASTER -- The local Elks lodge was closed and its charter revoked because of financial problems that included failing to pay bills.
The club's finances were among the reasons cited in a letter, obtained by the Eagle-Gazette, sent to lodge members by Elks Grand Lodge. The letter was written and signed by Grand Exalted Ruler James Nichelson."
"The charter for Batavia Elks Lodge 950 will not be renewed and no challenge has been made to a national decision to shut the lodge down and put it up for sale, the Elks state sponsor said."

It's surprising that the GL would force them to obtain this many more new members. Hell, there are a dozen lodges in NC that have under a 100 members. Going to force them to increase too?
Nice public relations piece. They got the date wrong for the lodge charter but other then that it might help describe the lodge's activities and purposes to the general public in a positive way.

Why celebrate 127 years?
"We want to commemorate 127 years of benevolence in Tiffin and celebrate another 100 years of active involvement in our community," Steinmetz said.

"If you often see need in the community but don't know how to go about meeting it, the proposed Mount Pleasant Elks Lodge might be for you.
Leaders, including acting exalted ruler Michael Fenwrick of West Ashley, have been working for the past year to attract enough members to start an Elks Lodge in Mount Pleasant. They need about 20 more members to reach the 100 necessary for a charter. "
Arthur Robinson is a big man, and when he laughs, the area around him seems to light up.
Robinson had caught a 6-inch perch, his first fish of the day, and when I told him to "hold that monster up" for a photo, he broke up laughing.
The fishing was slow, but no one could say we weren't having a good time on a beautiful summer day.
Robinson, who lives in Muskegon Heights and was a C-130 transport plane crew member in Vietnam, was one of 46 veterans hosted last week by members of St. Joseph Elks Lodge 541 for a day of food, fishing and fun. The vets are all patients at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Battle Creek.
The Elks rounded up 16 local boats, some run by charter fishermen and others by sport fishermen, to take the vets out. All volunteered their time.
