The Bethel Park High School Class of 2009 will be the 100th Graduating Class of Bethel Park High School and its predecessor schools.  The following is a brief history of Bethel Park High School.
When the Bethel Township School District began on June 21, 1886, education at that time was provided only to students in grades 1-8.
It was not until 1906 that the school district converted one of the classrooms in a three-room school house on Mollenauer Road (Bethel School near Mine Three) into a high school.
In those days, high school was a three year program and students only attended school for half days and for only one semester. The curriculum was basic; there were no electives and students purchased their own books. The high school program changed to a four-year program in 1914. Extra curricular activities began around 1920.
In 1908 the first Bethel High School was erected at the corner of South Park Road and Park Avenue, a building which is still standing today. The original building held two classrooms and an auditorium, employed four teachers and was constructed for $6,400.
The first Bethel High School graduating class was in 1909 with 15 students (10 girls and 5 boys) as members of the inaugural graduating class.
In 1927 a 10-room grade school was constructed near the high school on Park Avenue (the current site of the Bethe

Johnson's meticulously researched study is a very successful blend of two, or perhaps three, "new" kinds of history: the new military history, the new labor history, and the new social history. All of these "new" fields, of course, are as old as Johnson himself, but Warriors into Workers is one of the few monographs that attempts to bring these subfields together. By taking a detailed look at a city--Dubuque, Iowa--that was on the verge of major industrialization when the Civil War came along, Johnson examines the extent to which the experience of military service affected the transition of society from one based on farming, some mining, and commerce to one that would be increasingly dominated by industry in the postwar decades. The task he sets himself is to "[trace] the connection between the industrial workplace and the other great centralized, stratified, and authoritarian institution of the nineteenth century, the Union army" (p. 5). Using sophisticated analysis of the 1860 and 1870 censuses and thorough combing of local newspapers and a variety of local records, Johnson is able to present a fine-grained account of how Dubuque changed and how the war changed its veterans. Dubuque originated in the 1830s, after the Black Hawk War, as a lead-mining town, across the river from Galena, Illinois. By 1855, several railroads had made the city their western terminus, stimulating a brief but powerful commercial boom. For every moment shared to others, Bean pledges to donate a dollar to the National Park Foundation until it reaches a million dollars. According to Bean, the concept is to get people to utilize online social media to share their experiences outdoors (via photos, video, writing blogs and commenting). The money from that will be raised will be dedicated to connecting the youth to their national parks. This was prompted by a new survey from L.L. Bean and the NPF shows that 60% of children are spending less than one hour outside per day, with 59% of parents admitting to spending even less time outside due to various constraints. The results are enough to concern them, noting that families tend to spend more time indoors and eventually miss out on the emotional and physical benefits of spending time outside. LL Bean is kicking off their centennial anniversary promotions through a mission with NPF, a new line of special outdoor gear and the debut of their 'LL Bean Bootmobile'. The Bootmobile is a boot measuring 20 ft in length and 13 ft in height, built to scale by a specialty fabrication store in Florida, named Echo Artz. It is basically a Ford F-250 Super Duty truck with a huge boot made of fiberglass atop it. LL Bean Bootmobile has 800 lb-ft of torque, 400 horsepower and can tow up to 4 tonnes. Blach Hawk Adventures : Cabela's plan to expand franchise Cabela's, the leading fishing, hunting and outdoor gear retailer has announced their plans to open 3 next-generation stores and relocate their Winnipeg branch in 2013. Construction of next-generation stores is set to start this summer and Cabela's plans to open in the spring of next year in the following locations: Louisville, Kentucky; Grandville, Michigan and Columbus, Ohio. Scaling from 80,000 to 88,000 square feet, the stores will be made in the trademark design of Cabela's consisting of metal roofing, wood sliding, stonework and exterior log construction. They will also sport big glass facades to enable customers to see the shops'  interior even as they near the building. Their first 80,000-sq foot Columbus branch will employ as much as 175 workers coming from the nearby areas. It will be constructed in the Polaris Centers at Interstate 71 and Gemini Parkway, putting it alongside Camria Suites, Costco, Hobby Lobby, Toys R Us and various restaurants and hotels. The sporting and outdoor gear retailer announced on Thursday the 5% increase in their 4th-quarter earnings due to higher sales and bigger profit margins. They also publicized their plan to expand by establishing smaller stores, called Outposts in mid-size cities. The results are largely optimistic, beating Wall Street forecasts, with its shares rising by almost 10%. The company's CEO has announced that they are planning to increase their retail square footage by as much as 10% this year and up to 13% in 2013 through opening in new locations and trying new formats for smaller locations. According to Cabela's, their net income for the previous quarter amounted to around USD 70 million or almost a dollar per stock, a small but significant increase from a year prior. "It was never good to insult children from anything that could possibly have any danger attached yet parents keeping their children under permanent watch has become "what people do." People harmed children without them knowing it out of our fear-based culture.  Children need to confront danger; they need to explore; they need adventures at some point in their life. There was a time when parents knew how important to embrace adventure and danger at some time when let their kids go off into the woods by themselves, with rifles.  And thinking about it now, if that was really so horribly dangerous, half of us wouldn't be here. You bet alright, it is scary to watch your children walk into a subway station or out into the woods.  But you have to do it.  Let them go out and face the world, it is healthy for them but remember to calculate the risks, pick your times, pick your spots, watch them from a distance if you must. Fear is just an impulse; along with it can be based on lies, distortions, or even on nothing at all.  It's an absurd thing on which to base your children's lives. A new German study shows clearly that adventure shapes the individual. As one of the researchers concluded, "Living our lives makes us who we are."  Your children need to live, and not merely exist inside of a fear-inspired bubble. The study also indicates that exploration and adventure not only affect personality development, but also brain growth. The real dangers for your children lie in government schools, and even in private schools that function on the same model. People are pushed, economically, to put their children into public schools.  Make sure that you tell your children how the system is set up to condition them.  Educate them that understanding is far more important than memorizing.  Back them up if the teachers give them grief. In the case of a debit card, clients are instructed to press 1 to continue, then are instructed to enter their debit card number so it can be reactivated.   In the case of an account, they are asked to press 3 for additional assistance. If you have given your card information, your card has been compromised and should be shut down and replaced. If you did not give your card information, please continue to use your card, but monitor your account for any suspicious activity. If you have given your account number, monitor your account and report any suspicious activity immediately.
