Fun way to create news stories that look like the real thing. Can be downloaded.

This is a toy for generating word clouds from text. You can tweak your clouds with different fonts, colours, and layouts. Take a screen shot to save your creation as there isn't a way to export as a jpeg. Wordles would make great title pages or slides and could be a fun class brainstorming activity or a way for kids to practice writing their spelling words.

A great online version of "Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader" recommended by James Hollis at Teachers Love Smartboards. Really fun to play with excellent graphics.

Detailed description (and video) of a vocabulary game using wordle word clouds. The blogger had created a wordle and covered up the words with with rectangles. Students came to the SMARTBoard one at a time to touch the rectangle and reveal a word. Then they used a spinner to tell them to use the word in a sentence, tell how many syllables, or give a synonym or antonym. The rectangles were colour coded by degree of difficulty so the teacher could differentiate instruction. You can download the Notebook file, and the blogger promises a tutorial for this idea.

This is a super-fun word-search game on the tags associated with Flikr photos. Just type in a word (you don't need a Flikr name unless you only want to use your own photos) and the puzzle is created instantly. For more info see Paul Hamilton's review at

Give free rice to hungry people by playing a simple word game. This would be a fun activity for middle and high school students. Warning...it's completely addictive.

Great graphing program within the Math is Fun suite...works great with smartboard and graphs can be converted from one type to another. You can input your own labels and values.
