Susan Lehr explains on page 116 of "Battling Dragons" that "teachers cannot know what will happen when children begin reading and talking about real events, real problems, real episodes from history, spiritual journeys, and reflections as found in fantasy, historical fiction, nonfiction, realistic fiction and poetry." This book should give the child insight on the lack of freedom that many children face and show them how much freedom they may take for granted. It may also convince them to not put others down because of his/her viewpoints, or at any one else's expense. The selection should reach children ranging in age from 8-12 years old. No chapter books, please. Short stories and picture books only. Please submit nominations by February 19th, 2008.
