Over in the Meadow at the Big Ballet by Lisa Shulman and illustrated by Sarah Massini - 0 views

  •
    This is a story about a Swan who loves to dance, especially ballet. She struggles with the feeling of nervousness throughout the story. The big ballet is coming up and she is afraid to get on stage. Luckily she has a wonderful teacher that encourages her to push on. She keeps practicing, but she is still nervous. This book will teach a child that it is ok to feel nervous, but to never give up.

Dog Breath: The Horrible Trouble With Hally Tosis by Dave Pilkey - 0 views

    Dog Breath is about a very good dog with a very big problem, bad breath. Halle is the Tosis family pet and they love her dearly but the Tosis parents say she has to go, even the skunks avoid her. The Tosis children take matters into their own hands. In an attempt to get rid of Halle's bad breath they take her to admire a "breathtaking" view, and exciting movie that leaves you "breathless" and a ride on a roller coaster that promises to make you "loose your breath". None of these endeavors work and the children return home. Later that night burglars break into the house and Halle licks them causing them to pass out and be captured. Now the Tosis family decides to keep their wonderful watchdog. This is a laugh out loud hilarious book for all ages. I am sure that anyone who reads it will find it very amusing.

A Spree in Paree by Catherine Stock - 0 views

    In this book, Monsieur Monmouton and his farm animals take a trip to Paris which is a big change from the farm.  While on their trip, they visit the Louvre, a three star restaraunt, and many more places that are reminiscent of life in Paris.  This is a really great book for introducing students to Paris and a new language; however, there are quite a few French words that are difficult to say and it doesn't give the meaning of them either.  The pictures are excellent and dramatize the Paris life perfectly so students will be able to feel something while reading it.  One teacher says that this book's water color illustrations bring the adventure alive and to a new level.

Owen, By Kevin Henkes , Illustrated by Kevin Henkes: HarperCollins Children's Books - 0 views

    A great portrayal of a mouse child learning to grow up and leave his childhood friend, his blankey. His mother helps him grow up and make his blankey into a big boy hankey! This book portrays a great picture of how and what it takes for children to grown up. This is one of the books strengths. From a teachers viewpoint I think this would be great to read with little children because they can relate to having to deal with something like growing apart from your childhood friend such as a blankey. I do have this book, it is my own, so if you would like to check it out, you can get it from me, Enjoy (;

The Biggest Nose; Kathy Caple - 0 views

  •
    This story is about an elephant who is told by a hippo that she has a big nose. She becomes self conscious and ties her nose in a knot to make it smaller. She decides that looks silly. She finally gets the knot out, and she is happy with her nose. When she goes back to school and they tease her, she points out that she may have the biggest nose but the hippo has the biggest mouth, the alligator has the biggest tail, and the rabbit has the biggest feet. I think this is a great story of how life is tough. She isn't making fun of the others, she is just pointing out that no one is perfect. It is a good lesson for children to learn. It would make them see that they shouldn't make fun of others,

Big Al, by Andrew Clements - 0 views

    This book is about a really scary fish named Al who couldn't make any friends because of how he looked. All the other fish were scared of him. He tried everything to get them to be his friend. One day, the other fish got caught in a net and Al got to be the hero and save them. This book highlights the topics of  making friends, getting along with classmates, and understanding one's feelings. This book would be beneficial to read if there is a conflict in your class between students because of differences.
