Apportunities with iPads is a forum originally designed for 20 teachers and parents in the state of Minnesota who are involved in an iPad Project with children who have deaf-blindness. The intent of this forum is to establish a tool that will allow teachers and parents within this project to connect and share experiences about the use of the iPad as an instructional tool with this population of learners.
The broader intent of this forum is to weave together the ever-changing face of app use within the field of special education and students with severe and multiple disabilities.
GREAT SHARE! -- thank you so much! I run a list serve for parents of teens with learning disabilities who aspire to college. In addition to being a college Learning Specialist, I raised a teen with LD/ADD who successfully completed college. SO... I've been on both sides of the desk! I help parents proactively set their teens up for college success, and this site is a real winner! I can't thank you enough.
By the way, parents of high school teens with LD/ADD can subscribe to my listserve at:

Children with learning disabilities (LD), like dyslexia, have trouble understanding words they read. Causes are unclear, but we now know that LD is not due to a lack of intelligence or a desire to learn. While dyslexia is a life-long condition, early identification, support from a parent or teacher, and access to digital or audio books and other learning materials may help your child to improve their learning outcomes and be better prepared to successfully work around their LD.
The Spangler Effect is a new YouTube channel from Steve Spangler Science. Unlike his popular Sick Science videos which are no more than short demonstrations of science experiments students and parents can do at home, The Spangler Effect videos offer longer (15 minutes or so) explanations of science experiments. The Spangler Effect videos explain the science of do-it-yourself experiments and how you can recreate those experiments at home or in your classroom.
""Use your words," I hear a parent tell their child... This augmentative assisted communication tool (AAC) helps children talk about their feelings and behaviour. Calm talk also helps children practice self-calming strategies through a variety of activities. All children can benefit from this app, including those who have ASD, ADD/ADHD, speech and language impairments and intellectual impairments. Developing children's emotional intelligence is fundamental for life.
Calm Talk was developed by an Educational Therapist who needed a tool to help children with social and behavioural difficulties."
