Children with learning disabilities (LD), like dyslexia, have trouble understanding words they read. Causes are unclear, but we now know that LD is not due to a lack of intelligence or a desire to learn. While dyslexia is a life-long condition, early identification, support from a parent or teacher, and access to digital or audio books and other learning materials may help your child to improve their learning outcomes and be better prepared to successfully work around their LD.

"Since Apple released the iPad on April 3, 2010, there has been daily news buzz about its overnight success and the many wonderful uses for the Autism community. The iPad employs new alternative communication methods and learning applications providing Autistic children with enhanced communication, independence, daily life skills, and developmental growth.  Most important to me, the iPad gives those without a voice the chance to be heard. My son is without speech, and uses Tap to Talk, to communicate. This application uses picture identification to create sentences that are spoken aloud. My biggest wish has always been to hear my son say 'I love you,' and because of this recent technology, I finally can!"

Youth identified with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) have deficits in social competence that can lead to problematic social behavior and social isolation. This can lead to a lower quality of life, as well as deficits in other developmental areas such as language and cognition. The iSocial project undertakes research and development to test and advance a set of principles and methods to enable and enhance social interaction for individuals with ASD. The long term aims of the project are to implement a virtual world that supports positive social interaction, enables learning of social competence with transfer to other settings, enables learning of other academic and workforce preparation subjects for youth with social deficits, and supports a community of educators, parents and youth as they address the needs of youth with ASD.
