"Tinychat provides dead simple, free to use, video chat rooms that just work!"
  •
I read an article about a month ago on when watching a video or movie in class, teachers were using a chat room to simultaneously discuss the movie. Tiny Chat is only one of many sites where you can create temporary chat rooms for the class and share the link to all of your students. At the end, many of these chat rooms disappear and the info gets cleared. What I liked about Tiny chat is that is also has the ability to show webcams, share Youtube videos, and you can create a whiteboard to share with the group so they can do some brainstorming.

All Over the Map: 10 Ways to Teach About Geography - 0 views

  •
Geography frequently takes a back seat to history in the social studies classroom, but teaching geographic literacy is essential if students are going to understanding the challenges and opportunities of our complex world. We have created 10 activities for teaching about geography using Times content, all related to the National Geography Standards, which were produced by the Geography Education National Implementation Project. Our list is a grab-bag of ideas - from designing maps to analyzing border conflicts - and teachers can use the activities in any order, or as a road map for tracking ongoing coverage of geography-related issues.

Geoconferencing marries two well-known concepts: video conferencing and geocaching-an outdoor scavenger hunt in which students use GPS devices and mobile devices to travel to specific coordinates in order to locate hidden items known as travel bugs. Travel bugs have unique codes that owners and participants can use to track a bug's movement on geocaching.com.

How to Use ZBL (zombie based learning) - 0 views

  • The ZBL narrative follows the different stages of the zombie outbreak: Pre-planning, the outbreak, after the outbreak, survival, resettlement and rebuilding society. Students apply the knowledge and critical thinking that meets geography standards instead of just memorizing maps and capitols. The goal is to practice higher order thinking skills and think like a geographer.
