Here is the page that has it all; all the questions, the scoring guide, and the sample responses from students. After reading my first set of essays, I am going to show the students what other students have done and the scores they earned by showing them the Sample student responses - just like we learned in class :)
We did the 'goldfish' activity in class on Friday and it was just as much fun as when we did it in the training! And the students seemed to 'get it' when their oceans ran out of fish!
I am going to follow up on the concept of sustainability with a simulation called Marine Reserves and Local Fisheries (for PC) located here http://ncep.amnh.org/marine_simulation/ which goes into more depth and has the students record some data, answers a few questions, and test how setting up a Marine reserve effects the fish population. There is a complete teacher's guide and all you have to do is register to get it.
