Google has introduced a new Index Status feature in its Webmaster Tools. If you are a webmaster that wants to study the number of URLs indexed in the past year along with several other finer details then this feature would be of great help to you.

At the start of 2012, Google had announced Google+ Local that enhanced local searches to help visitors locate your favorite hotel or museum with ease. Many cities across the globe such as Madison, San Diego, Portland, etc., were included in this project.

Major search engines such as Google, Bing, and Yahoo allowed webmasters to use the link rel="canonical" tag that allowed them to include a URL in text/html form for indexing. In recent times, Google has also allowed webmasters to use the rel=canonical tag for HTTP Headers.

Many SEOs try various methods to compel Googlebot to re-crawl the desired URLs on demand such as using free pinging services or by using links to their websites, but forget that Google already offers a fantastic re-crawling tool from its tool box.
