MarshalSandler.com is a playground of ideas, introductions, and synergies. Marshal exhibits a blogging style that is less about tamping out his thoughts and more about the juggling, rearranging, juxtaposing, and syndicating of the content of other people and companies - a communications cubism of sorts. There's no room for crap, but there is plenty of room for friendly people with interesting ideas. Marshal's day is the search for new technologies, new ideas, new relationships, and new things to curse happily about. So, participate. Cut bait. marshal.m1@gmail.com

Open Season
I am just back from vacation and was sent a link to Jason Calacanis' monomaniacal riff in his subscriber based email on the shortcomings of PR people, titled, "How to Get PR for Your Startup; Fire Your PR Company." Captain Ahab has nothing on Mr. Calacanis. Catch a few of his choicest cuts from the white whale (PR):
* Journalists hate PR people …if they say otherwise, they are lying, placating you, or just being diplomatic;
* PR people are selling you a share of their relationships with journalists and their relationships are typically on shaky ground;
* When I was a journalist I would not speak to PR people about my stories;
* PR people are an inefficiency in the system;
* Journalists are constantly getting banged by lazy, clueless PR people who fire first and don't understand what the word "aim" means;
* You don't need a PR firm, you don't need an in-house PR person, and you don't need to spend ANY money to get amazing PR

Last night I watched Bill Oreilly it was a real belly laugh when they reviewed The Newsday Editor and A Cub Reporter who had written the article about a book Oreilly wrote ! It seems the book written by Oreilly had influenced a man to commit a murder ! Is Oreilly really the Manuchrian Candidate ! After looking at Newsday on the web, folks this Newpaper is a dead as Custer ! Let's look at a few lead stories!
Woman arrested for stealing deli meat in Hicksville
Charlene Li becomes the first person I've interviewed twice in this Global Report. I justify that because in the 54 weeks since the previous interview, a great deal has happened. She co-authored Groundswell the enterprise playbook for enterprise multimedia. She completed a nine-year tenure at Forrester Research and as I write this report, is putting the finishing touches on Altimeter, her new speaking and consulting service.

I'm Speaking in China. Why this Excites me.
I'm reading Nixon and Mao by Margaret MacMillan. Until the year 2000, Nixon was my least favorite president, but as I read this recounting of his 1972 trip to what we then called "Red China," I cannot help but acknowledge the greatness of what he achieved by being the first US president to set foot in China. It really was a trip that changed the world.
I recall the controversy of the time. Some TV reporter--either Dan Rather or Sam Donaldson--stuck a microphone in front of Henry Kissinger, Nixon's closest adviser and secretary of state who had engineered the trip."Mr. Secretary," he was asked, "what does the United States expected to gain out of this China junket?" The implication was that the trip was nothing but political PR. Many of us suspected that it was no more than a stunt.
