I also support the right to die movement. I watched a really interesting documentary, How to Die in Oregon, about Oregon's Death with Dignity Act. It's a really interesting movie and I'd suggest it to anyone.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/celebritynews/9334190/Sir-Terry-Pratchett-opponents-of-assisted-suicide-stir-up-needless-hysteria.html This article doesn't mention the movement in the U.S., but I really like what Sir Pratchett says about the opposition to the right to die movement.

Hmm. This is a very interesting and touchy topic. Personally I think that if the patient is mentally stable and capable of making this choice then they should be allowed to do it. If it was me, I wouldn't want to suffer with a terminal illness. This method is just more humane than jumping off a cliff or pulling the trigger
  •
I very much agree with the right-to-die movement and i especially agree with Hayley.
  •
This is quite a weird subject! I think that people should have the right.
  •
I think people should have the right, it's there life.
  •
Very interesting. I believe that if the patient is terminally ill, and has the ability to consciously decide if they want to die, then it is really their choice and no one else's.

When U.S.A! U.S.A! chant is not patriotic - CNN.com - 4 views

I think it's okay to cheer for your country when you're trying to support them, but if you're doing it to offend other races, then that's different.
  •
Some people take their patriotism too far. But then again, other races look for reasons to call Americans racist.
  •
Patriotism is huge to Americans. Chanting USA at USA games shows that they are patriotic but when you chant it towards other races because you believe they are not true Americans is a different story. Those people who offended others by chanting that should be punished.
  •
I think representing your country is not offensive. Other people have the option to do the same things in representing what they stand for.
  •
This happened at one of the basketball games I was at this year and I thought it was very disrespectful but nothing was said or done to the student section that said it.
  •
Those people were just stupid, they took the chant to a whole different level how it wasn't meant to be.

The article is from 2011, but I think it's really interesting considering the current gun control debate going on in the U.S.

"The Supreme Court accepts only a fraction of the appeals submitted to it, and in May it declined to review the case of Joel Tenenbaum, who like Thomas-Rasset is still fighting the recording industry in court."

i did the math so over the company lost over 9000 customers if the song cost was 24$
  •
When we use something from the school like a uniform or a book and it isn't returned we are fined the price of the item. I lose my basketball uniform, I pay $40. How come when this women takes something that is worth 24$ she must pay 10,000x what it is worth to the owner?

Obama offering immigration plan as backup - 1 views

Citizens United, the conservative group that successfully sued to enable wealthy corporations to buy elections, also has it in for same-sex couples.

Move to Amend's Proposed 28th Amendment to the Constitution - 2 views

What do you all think about this proposed amendment?
  • ...1 more comment...
  •
I agree with this amendment making sure that corporations are not treated as people within law.
  •
This is a really interesting movement. While I think most people (people being the keyword there) would be more than happy to see this passed. Unfortunately I feel the corporations that hold a lot of influence in our government won't allow this to get the proper attention where it counts.
  •
Although if it were to be passed then it would show that the people can still indeed overpower the large corporations and their political pull.

Boy Scouts reconsiders policy against gay membership - 2 views

  •
(CNN) -- The Boy Scouts of America is considering changing its longstanding policy against allowing openly gay members, according to a release from the organization. The organization, which has 2.7 million members, is "potentially discussing" doing away with its policy after months of nationwide protest, including hundreds of angry Eagle scouts renouncing their hard-earned awards and mailing back their red-white-and-blue medals.

Interesting idea as to how this would work. Let the independent group decide, I wonder how that would work out, and if their would be conflict at national events.
  •
As an Eagle Scout, I would feel very awkward sleeping in the same tent as a gay kid.
  •
I would consider applying the idea of "no acceptable relationship in a workplace" in this situation...
  •
I think grayson holds a very good point...
  •
It isn't just about sleeping in the same tent as a gay kid, one of the biggest things of being a Boy Scout is serving god. Most people who are gay usually aren't religious because in most religions being gay is a sin.
  •
Regarding Grayson's comment about god and the BoyScouts, not only will the BSA kick you out for being gay, but also atheist or agnostic scouts or leaders are not allowed. Here is more on the controversies including a Supreme Court challenge won by the BoyScouts http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boy_Scouts_of_America_membership_controversies#Position_on_atheists_and_agnostics
  •
Grayson your statement that gay people usually aren't religious isn't necessarily true. http://www.barna.org/barna-update/article/13-culture/282-spiritual-profile-of-homosexual-adults-provides-surprising-insights This link shows that, while they may not be as religious as heterosexuals, gay men and women are still religious people. Religion is an extremely personal thing for people and everyone can read a religious text and come out with different interpretations. Going back to the Boy Scouts, they are a private organization that a person is asking to join. Although I disagree with their current policies I feel that it is their right to make those policies if they would like. However, with diminishing membership and corporate sponsorship because of some of these policies they may have to reevaluate them as time goes on like they are doing now. What's interesting is that the Boy Scouts of America is one of the few members of the World Scouting movement that has a ban on Homosexuals. The equivalent programs in Canada and a majority of Europe do not have such bans and they have no issue with homosexual scouts making a commitment to God.
  •
If you were a Boy Scout or a Girl Scout you would understand.
  •
re:Grayson -- an Iowan Eagle Scout named Zack Wahls disagrees with you. The second video linked from CNN gives both sides a chance to respond to the BSA's recent dilemma. http://www.cnn.com/2013/02/05/opinion/wahls-gays-scouting/index.html?iid=article_sidebar

I'm not saying I'm against gays and stuff but I just wouldnt feel right if I knew that there where homosexuals in a group with my child I just wouldn't feel comfortable knowing that.
