Hillary Clinton for president in 2016? - 0 views

  •
"Hillary Clinton would be a nearly invincible force, Democrats and Republicans agreed today, should the Secretary of State validate rampant speculation that she will mount a second presidential run when she steps down from her administration post early next year."
  •
I think it would be interesting to see her run for President in 2016. Only issue I foresee is that people will target her because of Bill Clinton.

Should the U.S. allow gambling on elections? - CNNPolitics.com - 1 views

  •
For years, Vaccaro has watched billions of dollars pour into Nevada for sports betting. And he dreams of extending casino gambling to political elections.
  •
I don't think they should allow gambling on elections because then the elections would be much more money focused than politics and people would could cause crime or go to extreme measures to make sure one person won for gambling's sake. However, this might also help people get more involved in voting and politics.

Inmates defeat Harvard debate team - CNN.com - 2 views

  •
Inmates from the Eastern New York Correctional Facility defeated the prestigious Harvard debate team in mid-September as part of the Bard Prison Initiative, a program run by Bard College to provide college education to qualifying prisoners, according to the Wall Street Journal.
  •
This makes me think of the Toffler reading from our Chpt 1. "It is the truly revolutionary characteristic of knowledge that it can be grasped by the weak and the poor as well. Knowledge is the most democratic source of power." The USA imprisons more people than anywhere else in the world. Obviously there is a lot of talent being untapped by people who chose crime instead of channeling their efforts in positive ways.

Your Right to Own, Under Threat | Electronic Frontier Foundation - 1 views

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments today in a case called Kirtsaeng v. Wiley, and their final decision could help shape the future of "first sale," a legal doctrine that underpins the right to sell, lend, or give away the things you buy, even if those things contain copyrighted elements.
  •
I actually read another article about this somewhere (wish I had saved it now.) In the article I read a law professor or a lawyer or someone like that said that it isn't things manufactured overseas but things originally bought overseas. The example used in the article I read was if you bought an iPod in China because it was cheaper then tried to sell it here for a profit then the "first sale" doctrine doesn't protect you. However, if you buy the iPod here in the United States, even if it was made in China, then you'd be protected. Not sure how accurate/unbiased the article I read was as I don't remember who it was by but I do think that this article sounds a little biased and like they are trying to push two sperate issues together ("first sale" and the controversial digital licences issue). Just my take though.

Funny, very much so. I think it's worth 20 seconds of your life to view this site.

Presidential Campaigns Pass $2 Billion - 0 views

  •
This is ridiculous. I think we should set a cap on how much money can be spent running for office, since (in my opinion) a lot of the money that goes into campaigns is wasted. My family has actually received multiple DVDs in the mail from a few different political parties (mostly Republican and Tea Party, I believe). When campaigning gets to the point where parties are paying for movies to be produced - one of them was about how Obama is a Communist - and paying for what is presumably thousands of DVDs to be mailed, something needs to be changed.
  •
It goes to show how close of an election this is. I mean people are very in depth on who are next leader should be if they raised this much money!
  •
I got one of these, I looked at it, and pretty just looked at the description. Who cares if his real father is a communist?

Sweden runs out of garbage, forced to import from Norway - 3 views

  •
"Sweden, birthplace of the Smörgåsbord, Eric Northman, and the world's preferred solar-powered purveyor of flat-pack home furnishings, is in a bit of a pickle: the squeaky clean Scandinavian nation of more than 9.5 million has run out of garbage."

sounds like a cheap energy source and it help make sure the environment stays clean too.
  •
This is really interesting. The article skims over the possible downsides to this program, though. It mentions that "highly polluting dioxins" that are produced by the process are landfilled again in Norway. What are the effects of the dioxins, and if they are highly polluting, is simply landfilling them safe? Also, importing garbage from Italy would require a lot of resources. I'd like to know the cost vs. benefits of that solution.
  •
Sweden sounds like they actually care about the earth and found a cheap energy source
  •
that sounds amazing! its just time before United States does the same thing
  •
This doesnt sound like a bad thing...
  •
That is incredible. Unfortunately I don't believe america is anywhere near this good at managing our waste.
  •
I think that is a great idea. They can find cheap energy source and keep it clean.

Trump warns of another attack - 4 views

shared by kadenroen on 16 May 16 - No Cached
  •
"Our country has enough difficulty right now without letting the Syrians pour in," Trump said on The Green Line. Trump also suggested ISIS is paying for refugees' cell phone plans. "They all have cell phones so they don't have money, they don't have anything, they have cell phones," Trump said.
  •
I think there is a possibility that Trump is right. We could be letting people in that are terrorists. It is a problem that we can not keep track of the refugees and we have no way to know if they are working for ISIS or not. There has to be a way that we protect ourselves. If we can not protect ourselves at home we will not be able to help other countries.

Keeping the two high schools the way they are is not entirely because of racism. Some of the kids go to the schools out of tradition. I think for this case the courts are going to have to decide what defines integration. Do the races need to be 50/50 in schools? Is it still integrated if it is 75% white and 25% black?

Libertarian Gary Johnson: crazy election cycle means 'I might be next president' | US n... - 5 views

After seeing this years election I realize that the elections are more unpredictable than I originally thought. It is possible that he could win, or come close, especially with opponents like Hillary and Trump.
  •
I doubt this will ever happen, but if it did it would be absolutely ludicrous. I'm almost positive there hasn't been a 3rd party winner since George Washington
  •
re:Tanner I am not betting on a 3rd party win, but I do think this will be a big year for their vote totals. Technically Abraham Lincoln was a 3rd party (split from the Whigs to form the Republican party)

Unemployment Rate Hits Lowest Level Since Financial Crisis - 1 views

  •
Donald Trump's presidential victory may have caused some employers to hit the pause button, but not many. In the first jobs report since Trump was elected president, employers added slightly fewer positions than expected in November. Nonetheless, the unemployment rate dropped unexpectedly to 4.6%.
  •
I think this is a great thing because he talked about doing this and he did.

Michelle Obama: The Clinton surrogate that could finish off Trump - 6 views

  •
"When they go low," Clinton says on the campaign trail, "We go high," her supporters shout back. In 2008 and 2012, President Barack Obama's campaign aides anointed Michelle Obama "The Closer." This year, Hillary Clinton may well designate her most popular surrogate the starter, the reliever and the pinch-hitter, too.
  •
The first lady, Michelle Obama has been known for her ability to persuade and has since been called "the closer" for her husbands previous campaigns. Just recently Mrs. Obama opened up with sexual assault cases against Trump, (not to her of course but past charges or claims). Thus being the second time this year alone that Michelle has connected with her audience and left her point clear with support.
  •
In her speeches you can tell she is very passionate about what she is saying. She is a democrat so many will say she's only taking Hillary's side because of that, but it goes deeper than that. She believes that Hillary winning will have people standing up against Trump and his bad comments towards women. She doesn't think that what he says is an okay thing for anyone to say, especially someone who might become our president.

North Dakota Pipeline: Protesters vow to stand ground - 0 views

  •
Since late summer, protesters have stood beside members of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in North Dakota who believe the $3.7 billion pipeline project, which would move 470,000 barrels of crude oil a day across four states, would affect its drinking water supply and place downstream communities at risk of contamination from potential oil spills.
  •
I think this is ridiculous. The pipeline is off of their grounds, and is on property purchased by Energy Transfer Partners. This is out of their control and they deserve to be arrested for trespassing (which they are) and the government should be able to use force to remove them from the site (Which they are also doing).

The reality behind Russia's fake news - CNNPolitics.com - 7 views

  •
"The 2016 presidential race was rife with disinformation, none more blatant than fake news -- hoaxes, half-truths, outright lies -- that flashed through the internet at warp speed."
  •
When it comes to important news stories about the presidential candidates especially around this time, the truth gets thrown around so much. People sometimes believe what ever they read. This just happened to get blown out of proportion.
  •
This doesn't surprise me. I feel like people forget how communism influences its people and what they think.

What do Mexicans say about Donald Trump's wall announcement? - BBC News - 6 views

  •
"What do Mexicans say about Donald Trump's wall announcement?"
  • ...1 more comment...
  •
I think that the wall could be a possible way to stop a part of illegal immigration but the problem with that is how expensive it would be and also most immigrants come here on planes not across the border.
  •
The wall can stop illegal immigration, but the approach to it by the US isn't the right way to go after it. Mexican newspapers are asking the Mexican president to cancel his white house visit due to the wall.
  •
Would help to control the immigration and also that the people here and who want to work have more possibilities of work and more help and that many of the immigrants take advantage of the aid that gives the government and although others if working strongly and cleanly They involve and thus that way they all look that way

Obama to huddle with Democrats on protecting his signature health care law - 13 views

Obamacare has been sometimes helpful but it has also crashed our country.
  •
What exactly did it do to "crash" our country, and how did it do so?
  •
I agree with Landon, in many ways, Obamacare has crashed our country, but it is always to look at the solutions to our problems, our options, and most importantly, look optimistically at the ways Obamacare has helped us. I think a big one is children can now stay on their parents' insurance until age 26. It has helped 5.7 million young adults over the past five years!
  •
they meet on how to defend the act and how to help it protect other forms of people.
  •
"Other executive actions, including those providing new safeguards for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans and curbing greenhouse gas emissions linked to climate change, could also come under fire" this in addition to obamacare being repealed does not make much sense to me. Along with the anti abortion deal. It seems like this is less of a "whats best for america" situation and more of a " erase obama and his administration" kind of deal. not a fan
  •
I agree with Landon, and Jamie. In many ways obamOcare has helped us, but it hasn't in others.
  •
Obamacare has done nothing but ruin the country by raising the price of healthcare, Obamacare should be removed and let healthcare actually be affordable.
  •
Obamacare has done nothing for us. Prices are through the roof. its not affordable at all. You cant keep your health insurance company. They tell you who you have. Drugs are more expensive. We need a full repeal and replace!
  •
Maybe Obamacare has ruined things in our country but there is also a lot of positive things it has done.

Bomb threat targets 'Making a Murderer' sheriff - 7 views

  •
MANITOWOC, Wis. - Authorities investigated a bomb threat made Wednesday night against the Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office and evacuated buildings near the downtown office. The sheriff's office has recently received significant criticism from members of the public for its handling of the investigation of the investigation of the 2005 slaying of photographer Teresa Halbach.
  •
I think that the Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office should be prepared for the threats from people, because this documentary did take a rather big impact on peoples lives, and probably affected them in many ways. Releasing the documentary is something that should be taken really seriously, and cautiously.
