With COVID-19 Relief Passed, It's Time for Democrats to Destroy the Filibuster - 0 views

  •
With the Filibuster in place, nothing gets done. The Filibuster allows the minority of congress to block popular legislation. Ignoring the often unrepresentative nature of the congress, this is a serious problem that isn't even enshrined in the constitution. What are your thoughts on the Filibuster?

I agree, an example of this would be the 15 Dollar minimum wage increase. 62% of Americans support the increase but since the filibuster is in place the minority Republicans will continuously block the bill.

Although the article has a liberal bias, the information provided (including the charts at the end) are fairly interesting about the frequency of filibusters for the last 20 years.

This is nuts. The headline says it all. There has to be some more comprimise in the coming years or the trouble we have will multiply tenfold.

I agree with you Blake. The reason why this country is going down hill is because Democrats and Republicans fight over how to fix it, and nothing ever gets done.

"Neil Gorsuch's nomination to the Supreme Court faces a dramatic week as senators prepare to cast key votes that could splinter the chamber and lead to a divisive rule change imposed by Republicans to ensure they can confirm the judge by Friday."

I don't believe filibustering will really do any good. They can't just filibuster until another justice dies or for years. It's really childish in a manner to just be doing it in order to have revenge over the Republicans.
  •
What is so bad about having a filibuster? Just let Democrats speak their mind and see what happens, they already waited a year and a half they can wait a little longer for a decision.

WASHINGTON -- When Harry Reid came in through a side door to the Mansfield Room Thursday afternoon, the majority leader was met with a raucous standing ovation from a crowd of activists, mere steps from the Senate floor where he had just successfully led a change of Senate rules to reform the filibuster.

The Kentucky senator's latest filibuster-style stand against government surveillance positions him as the bane of Big Brother and puts him at the center of a high-profile national security debate as support for the post-9/11 security state seems to be fraying. Paul's maneuvering is not without risks.
