100 moments from Obama's presidency - 23 views

"100 moments from Obama's presidency" President Obama's 8 years in office end in one more month. Here are many cool photos that span the two terms.

my favorite picture is the little boy touching Obama's hair to see if it "feels the same as his"
  •
My favorite picture is President Obama saluting the fallen soldier. Because it shows respect to the people that put their lives on the line everyday so we can be free.
  •
my favorite picture is Obama is putting his toe on the scale while someone is trying to weigh themselves. Just shows that you can be the president and be funny and have a good sense of humor.
  •
For Obama touching the lives of many and being so kind and thoughtful to everyone, he deserves his eight years.
  •
My favorite pictures was the one of Obama and his wife in the elevator. They were sharing a moment with his wit. Its was cold so he took his tuxedo off and put it on his wife so she could stay warm.
  •
I think he has done a great job for the time he was dropped in here during. Cleaning up after Bush definitely took more time then it should have because of the wars and debt and such. But overall, he's been great with people, and shown he can be serious and fun loving. He was a great president and will definitely be remembered throughout history.
  •
Obama thinks of himself as an regular person, and he cares about the people. He can make connections with every person he meets. His eight years of being our president were spent wisely.
  •
I like the picture when he is saluting the solider because I think it's a very strong thing to do and it is very respectful for our country and everyone in it.
  •
My favorite photo during Obama's presidency is when I gave food to the needy because he sees the true humble person who is the one and that for me makes it big of heart to help and understand people's problems clearly
  •
These pictures are so great, I can feel his passion, love and work he's put into this country. They show so many cool things you didn't think the president did and his warmth for this country and love for his family. Haven't see any pictures like this of any other leaders. I'm impressed.
  •
My favorite picture was Obama was visiting the Sphinx, He wanted to seek a new begging with Muslims and the US, and thats good because not all Muslims are terrorists although many Americans think that.

Obama's tough dilemma on Manning, Wikileaks - CNNPolitics.com - 3 views

  •
"The move came with the hours fast running down on Obama's presidency and rocked the political, intelligence and military intelligence establishments in Washington. And it will now rest forever on the 44th President's legacy as one of the most controversial moments of his tenure, judging by the furious bipartisan reaction to his decision to free someone regarded by many in Washington as as a traitor. Gas Price Hike Hurts Obama Ratings - 5 views

  •
The price of gasoline is damaging not just Americans' finances and mobility -- but the public's broader economic sentiment, and with it, Barack Obama's re-election prospects. With gas up 26 percent this year to an average $3.88 a gallon, seven in 10 Americans in this ABC News/Washington Post poll report financial hardship as a result, six in 10 say they've cut back on driving -- and, among those hardest hit, Obama's ratings are suffering.

Great story about gas prices and its affects
  •
If gas prices stay low I believe Obama's ratings will go up!

I feel like Obama is actually trying to help us because America has done a lot of snooping and getting in other's business these past few years. The bombs in different cities are a huge problem and he's trying to resolve it, but not in war. America is trying to make peace with everyone, but we really can't when there's so much fighting and hate in the world.
  •
I agree with what president Obama said, I think that since the attack its finally opening his eyes and realizing that were in danger to snd they need to take action and do something about it.
  •
I think that Obama is taking very good steps in the fight against ISIS by showing the international community that we are willing to help and that we need the help of other countries to be able to defeat a force that affects everyone. I think he is doing the right thing with our defense against ISIS getting agents in our country with focusing the fight online and in our immigration process.
  •
I agree that Obama should at least act on the threat because of the attack. Its bring violence to his doors that he needs to act upon before its to late that terrorists are running up and down our streets. ( ZAC OLSON )
  •
I think that Obama is doing a good job to comfort the concerns of the U.S., and I also think why so many people think the government is doing nothing is because they have to keep some of it secret for our own safety and so ISIS does'nt known our plan.
  •
i think obama should act on the threat
  •
I believe President Obama has the right idea in taking on terrorists this way because he's not just having us as one country going after ISIS. He's having us as a group of countries go after this group that continues to terrorize for no other reason than for public awareness and publicity on their organization. He also has a good view about the "gun control" with automatic rifles, he is just saying that it's better to make sure that no one who isn't a professional can't use the weapon.
  •
In my opinion Obama should take action the way he plans to. How long before these plans come into action?
  •
doing whats best for it whatever it takes and come out

Trump's lies vs Oboma's - 13 views

    "Trump's Lies vs. Obama's"
  • ...9 more comments...
  •
Obama told 18 untruths over his entire time in office while Trump has told 103 in his first 10 months. Obama's lies are usually just exaggerations and making problems he is trying to solve sound worse than they are, and he realized after a while that it was wrong so by his last year in office he told one. Yet, the things he lied about were not made to hurt anyone or to cover up the truth like Donald Trump did. Trump was different from Obama because not only does he lie way more frequently but he lies to cover up anything that might make him look bad and hide the truth from situations. This should be a sign to people to not listen to Trump, no one wants a president that they can't trust.
  •
I think that if someone is president that they should never lie because it can only cause more problems
  •
I think that if you lie that much in office then you are not supposed to be there
  •
trumps just a compulsive liar that's digging a deeper hole for himself.
  •
a president who ;lies isn't a president at all, more like a corrupt leader(trump)
  •
It doesn't look good if our president has already told over 103 untruths and instead of being straight up about them he tries to make it seem like others are lying.
  •
I think that the worst part of him telling so many lies is that he tries to discredit people who say that he is lying even when the truth is blatantly obvious.
  •
I don't think anyone is surprised by this. Trump is a business man. He lies to make his way in the world. He doesn't care about honesty and honor as long as he gets what he wants.
  •
I figured that Trump wasn't that truthful, but 103 lies in the span of 10 months? That's unbelievable when compared to Obama, who told 18 lies in 8 years (year 7 wasn't even on there, so does that mean he went a whole year without telling a single lie?). I agree with kileywalden, who said that "Obama's lies are usually just exaggerations..." I think this is what truly sets Trump and Obama's lies apart from each other.
  •
This is the New York Times, which is a Democratic and not completely truthful news site, of course they would try to make Obama seem like a great president, when he could possibly be one of the worst in American History.
  •
I think the lies Trump tells are also just different than the kind of lies Obama told. Quite a few of Trumps lies are just him boasting about himself, such as him supposedly drawing huge crowds or being on times magazine so many times. He also takes credit for good things that are happening often and mostly just lies so much to make himself look better. The lies Obama said however were a lot more politically motivated and were meant to make you feel a certain way about an issue, compared to Trump, who's motivation is to make himself look better.

Washington (CNN) - House Speaker John Boehner told a group of Republicans the day after President Barack Obama's inaugural ceremony that the president's focus was to "annihilate the Republican Party." In remarks to Republicans attending a closed luncheon sponsored by the Ripon Society, Boehner pointed to the president's speech as evidence Obama recognizes he can't achieve his agenda because of the GOP-led House of Representatives.

Senate to vote Wednesday to override 9/11 lawsuit bill veto - CNNPolitics.com - 7 views

  •
"The Senate will vote Wednesday to override President Barack Obama's veto of a bill to give victims and families of the 9/11 terrorist attacks the legal right to sue Saudi Arabia for any purported role in the plot, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Monday."
  • ...1 more comment...
  •
I like what he is trying to do by helping those people, but I also think that it isn't worth it. It happened so long ago that they should bring up all of the pain again. Everyone might not sue them but if so many people do then that sounds to me like an unfair trial kind of thing. A lot of money against them I don't think they should get this law passed. Also that may hurt the whole city and the whole city didn't want those attacks to happen, only the extremist. Taking away that money from the city can make it fail.
  •
In my opinion people need to get over the whole 9/11 attack. Sure it was a big deal, but the culprits have been found and executed. This whole thing with Saudi Arabia being involved is absolutely ludicrous.
  •
I agree with Obama that those people should not have the right to sue Saudi Arabis because its not all those peoples fault.

Conservative justices questioned Obama's authority to use executive actions to shield some 4 million undocumented immigrants from deportation. Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito seemed particularly concerned with language in the administration's guidance that said the program's recipients would be "lawfully present," which they suggested would contradict immigration law.

Texas judge warns of civil war if Obama is re-elected - CNN.com - 8 views

  •
(CNN) -- An elected county judge in Texas is warning that the nation could descend into civil war if President Barack Obama is re-elected, and is calling for a trained, well-equipped force to battle the United Nations troops he says Obama would bring in.
  •
I'm honestly not sure whether at should laugh or cry because of this ridiculousness. So Obama is going to take over the U.S., but then he's going to "give the sovereignty of the United States away to the United Nations." Because that's what the UN does, right? It governs countries? And who exactly are Obama's "czars?" "He's got his czars in place that don't answer to anybody." I don't know if it's more worrying that Judge Head believes Obama is planning to become dictator of the U.S., or that he doesn't realize that he's implying Obama's czars don't listen to Obama, which would really mean that they are trying to take over the U.S., not Obama. And people in Texas actually support/believe this man? All I can say is that I'm glad I wasn't born in Lubbock County.

Obama's tax reform would be a good idea if it were implemented. It will be interesting to see what kind of resistance the "Buffet Rule" is met with from conservatives such as Donald Trump.
  •
A lot of this is great proposals, but sadly I think most of it is just empty words and will not take action, or solve any problems.
  •
These plans sounds good, it will solve many problems if it succeeds.
  •
The "Buffett Rule" is one of the most interesting subjects from the speech. Raise taxes on rich, but keep taxes the same from middle and lower class. Yes, this would absolutely help America get out of debt, but I do not believe that this would help the middle/lower classes. As the writer said, they need to lower the middle/lower classes taxes to make a major change to out economic situation
  •
So far most of what he is saying makes sense and is reasonable. I just don't think he will follow through with it, seldom do political figures accomplish what they say, how they say they will go about getting things done. He thinks the wealthier people (making $1,000,000) should pay at least 30% of taxes while the 98% of Americans that make only $250,000 a year should pay the taxes we do now, not an increased tax which simply cannot be paid by some.(The Buffett Rule)

Michelle Obama's School Lunches Starve Kids - 0 views

  •
RUSH: Okay. We had this as our Morning Update today, but in case you missed it. "School officials in Carmel Clay, Ind., said they lost $300,000 last school year because students are rejecting the healthy menu changes brought on by First Lady Michelle Obama's federal lunch regulations.
  • ...2 more comments...
  •
The idea of "healthy lunches" seems alright on paper. But I've actually heard people claim food served in prisons are healthier than some school lunches! Also, they say they're aiming for "healthier choices." If that's the case, why are we getting Nachos every Monday and French Fry Bars on Thursdays? So many mixed emotions about school lunch anymore! Great... Now I'm hungry
  •
In theory, the lunch program is a good idea, because students are getting the nutrients they need. However, if they don't eat it, it doesn't do them any good and just wastes the food and money used to buy it. The blame partially falls to students who refuse to eat the lunch, not only Michelle Obama.
  •
Some of the students that are told to pay for the lunch, can't afford it and refuses to pay for it. Who wants [ay for a meal that they don't like and probably won't benefit them? It's the student choice not the schools.
  •
I think this is a good idea, but we need to figure out how to make lunch affordable and healthy all at the same time.

Political Cartoon: Middle Class - 60 views

  •
President Obama said yesterday that the United States faces "a make or break moment" for a middle class that is shrinking because of "gaping" income inequality. In the comments, please give your thoughts on what this cartoon is implying and if you agree/disagree.

For more information on Obama's speech you can check USA Today http://goo.gl/oTNj9 If you look at this page, you may want to check out the "Presidential Approval Tracker" ... seems like a pattern to me.
  •
obama is a good man, and is trying to be a hero for the middle and lower class. If it wasnt for the republicans blocking every move democrats try to make and making our nation more inefficient than a classroom filled with apes, maybe by now our economy would actually be fixed, but no people cant come together for more than a week for the good of a whole country.
  •
The cartoon seems to imply that the "middle class" people have more to lose than they could gain/ can hold on to. While the wealthy are continuing to prosper significantly.
  •
I believe this gap is closing and most likely will work because theres enough people that want to close the "gap" and there will nolonger be a huge money gap anymore
  •
The "fuzzy math" section of the article is interesting because the statistics happen to be true. However, incorporating more ideals aligned with Socialistic ideology may not be the worst thing that could happen to this country.
  •
I believe that if we try to fix the "gap" in our country, the "gap" will increasingly become farther apart...
  •
"The richer are get richer" I believe that taxing the people who get higher income wont solve anything, I think that everyone should be equal. If the government starts taxing the wealthy then many middle class wont try as hard to get a higher income because of the higher taxes they will have to pay.
  •
I think the middle class are more likely to break than make.
  •
When has any of Obama's plans actually worked? I think the middle class is in big trouble.
  •
If we try to fix the "gap" of our country then the "gap" will continue to grow, if everyone came together for everything we would live in a perfect world, it wouldn't be fair if we had higher taxes for the rich, because some of them have worked hard for their money and it's not fair to tax them because of that.
  •
I also feel that the rich should be paying higher taxes, and the poor should get a little bit lower taxes
  •
I strongly disagree with Obama that the wealthy should get taxed more. What happened to "fair, open and honest?" It's not fair to those who succeed in life to have to pay more taxes for someone who failed or dropped out of high school.
  •
the tax situation is a good point but instead of paying said amount we should pay a certain percentage of our wage. so everyone no matter how much they make will put forth the same "share" of their wage and everyone will be happy. i mean seriously, does that multi-millionare really need any more money? heck ill be happy with just one million.
  •
I disagree with obama i feel everyone should be taxed the same why should the wealthy be punished for how succesful they are
  •
I think that Obama is trying his best to help out his country, but he needs to make more effective decisions.
  •
I agree with broxton, if taxes were based on a percentage of the income of a person, it would be fare and easy, no one could complain because you're only paying according to what you earn and not according to what is expected.
  •
I think the cartoons implying that Obama uses the middle-class and everything he's "going" to do for them as a bridge to stay president and win America over, when in fact he's making matters worse for the group he is supposedly "helping".
  •
if you in the middle class lower class or higher class you have to pay you taxes and we should all be taxed equaly
  •
I think that he is trying but he should make some diff. decision.
  •
i have to agree with broxton it makes sence to have a precent of ur wages be taken out. so some one working a part time job is paying a little bit and a person like warren buffet is paying alot abit but the wealthy well always find a way to wigil there way out of paying. always hav always will.
  •
I agree with Brock. I think there should be a percentage coming out of our income because it wouldn't be fair if we tax the rich more and the poor less just because they are more successful. Most people were raised differently and they have had more (or less) connections to get them to where they are now. It doesn't seem fair at all.
  •
I agree with what is being said on most of these comments.I do not believe the rich should have to pay higher taxes because they worked hard to get were they are now and just because we have a gap in our income does not mean that they have to pay for it.
  •
Our middle class is beginning to diminish because we are either rich or we are poor. In the role of gender, men have more opportunities to have more pay. Taxes are different based on pay, the more you make the more they take.
  •
A flat tax percentage may seem to favor the wealthy, but it's the only fair way to do things. Everyone is supposed to be equal in this country.
  •
I agree with Ziada. We are getting to the point were it's either the poor or the rich. The middle-class is starting to disappear.
  •
The middle class is all but gone. We don't even see them any different than that of the lower class. we are rich or we are poor, never in the middle.everyone thinks that the other makes to much or not enough
  •
I feel like Obama just talks about the stuff that people want to hear, yet he does nothing actually about the problems. Who cares if you can talk for almost an hour about a situation but don't do anything about it. Like many people said I don't believe people who are more successful should suffer to pay more taxes than people who do not have as much money because they did not prosper as much as someone who does work harder.
  •
I Also agree with ziada ,This is getting out of hand , what will happen if we break ? were do us, our society in the middle class go ?
  •
"A flat tax percentage may seem to favor the wealthy, but it's the only fair way to do things. Everyone is supposed to be equal in this country." I don"t think so, After all can you really say it's fair for someone with more means then responsibilities to pay a much lower overall percentage then someone with more responsibilities then means? I think that there is no way to make this kind of thing 100% fair but it is fairer to look at this kind of thing as percentages then as flat numbers.
  •
The rich shouldnt have to pay more because of their success they took their opportunities and made the best of them. of course many might have had the same opportunities but just didnt take them. or some simply didnt have the opportunity at all. the middle class will have a few struggles here and there, but in the end i think everything will be alright.maybe.i hope.
  •
This seems like a moment in American history where choices have to be made that everyone may not agree on. People are forced to use their money on others even if they don't want to. I hate the idea of being forced to use my money, but, the idea that people would rather the poor die and move out of the way is worse. No matter what, the choices are really difficult and can harm more than help. In the future we'll all look back on the results and hope they were for the better.
  •
Rising taxes for the rich in unjust and rising taxes for everyone is just dumb. They spend our tax money on useless things like art work instead of helping the very thing that keeps this country going... The people.
  •
I don't think that taxing the wealthy will really solve anything. The money won't go to the middle class, it will be tax money. Which goes to the state, which gets spent on different items. Tax money isn't just transferred to the pockets of the people of the lower and middle class.

Obama to nominate Hagel, Brennan for top national security posts - 0 views

It's interesting to read about the controversy over Obama's pick defense secretary and counterterrorism adviser.
  •
I think it's fair to say that the criticisms made against Hagel are in the past now. He should be fit for the job. From a defense standpoint there will be a lot of issues at hand in this administration.
