3 Reasons Why Linear E-Learning May Be the Best Solution » The Rapid eLearnin... - 0 views

  • A couple of the benefits of elearning are consistent delivery of content and compression of time to deliver it. That means that even if the course isn’t highly interactive it can still offer some value to the organization.
  • linear elearning is an appropriate solution when blended with classroom activities
  • By compressing the time and ensuring consistent delivery of the content, it frees up time for more meaningful conversation and learning activities in the classroom.

  • The reality for many organizations is that they tend to require participation in elearning courses that are not always relevant and don’t require a lot of interactive engagement. In an ideal world, we work with our clients to help them frame the content so it is relevant and adds value to the organization. But if that’s not possible, the best solution for the organization is to limit the time wasted taking irrelevant training.
  • A simple linear course that allows the person to get the information as fast as possible is one of the best things you can do for the organization. To make it better, you may even have the learners test out so they can avoid wasting time.

  • In the early days, 1999-2000, many of us believed that eLearning was the forefront of a renaissance in learning.
  • The eLearning dream didn’t last long.
  • When times were tough, training departments slashed budgets by replacing face-to-face instruction with online reading. They failed to follow through with the discussions, practice, social processing, and reinforcement that makes lessons stick. It didn’t work. Most eLearning is ineffective drudgery.

  • That’s my nightmare about flipping learning in the corporation, that organizations will once again confuse exposure to content with learning. It’s great to replace lectures with video clips — IF you retain the opportunity for people to ask questions, interact with the material, practice what they’ve learned, collaborate with others, and periodically refresh their memories. This takes a sound learning ecosystem, a workscape.

20 Things To Remember About Forgetting: The eLearning Coach - 0 views

  • What can learning specialists conclude from the science of forgetting? For a memory to persist, the information must be attended to, deeply processed, and connected in a meaningful way with existing knowledge. When it’s known that the learner’s knowledge base could compete with newly acquired information, allow the learner time to discriminate between the two types of content. Practicing the retrieval of information can facilitate retention because reconstructing memories alters them and makes them “stronger.” Don’t expect learner’s to remember trivial information. It won’t be remembered after the test.
