Couldn't find a paper for Alibaba's results but Microsoft Research's performance on this dataset was very close. Correct me, if I am wrong, but AFAIK this is the first time an AI enters a ladder, i.e. playing against humans on their own terms in the wild and not as part of some pre-arranged experiment.

While robots began assisting and replacing assembly line workers in automobile and airplane factories years ago, humans still reign supreme in satellite manufacturing. But that's slowly starting to change.

Recently, many competitions in the computer vision domain have been won by huge convolutional networks. In the image net competition, the convolutional network approach halves the error from ~30% to ~15%! Key changes that make this happen: weight-sharing to reduce the search space, and training with a massive GPU approach. I think the ultimate solution is still to put a human brain in a jar and use it for pattern recognition. Maybe we should get a stagiaire for this..?

It does not only give you superhuman abilities... it also makes you look hideous beyond human imagination :-P Nonetheless, it seems really interesting to bring all these separately existing technologies together in a single augmented reality device.

What makes us different is the particulars of our history, which gives us our notions of purpose and goals.
