State policies on integrating immigrants into schools

This post nicely summarizes key points from a book that partly informed the way I designed this course.

This seems fitting as it deals with connectivity as a learning process and federal programs.

The rural school problem is prominent and deserving of immediate attention on the local and state levels.

Interesting findings- and considering our webinar had one female superintendent and the others male...hmmmm....

I read that article for this week:) Very profound.

Political obstacles and governance discussed within this article which is a survey study of 46 superintendents.

Discusses what attributes are held by strong leaders based on evidence based policy. Mentions that leadership is heavily influenced by "the principal's core personal values and by the development of a shared orgaizational values base".

Author detailed the challenges/advantages of having a different leadership style from the superintendent when he was assistant. More importantly, the author was chosen to be superintendent when the former superintendent resigned, and he described his belief that being a good superintendent is all about obtaining trust among the constituents.

History on the role of superintendents and perspectives of currrent superintendents on their roles. Emphasis on relational mentoring as an important factor for new superintendents.

In the light of the difficulties and tensions, we end with recommendations for anti-oppression teacher education. These focus on how (a) to make deliberative and transformative inquiry central and focused on social justice; (b) to invitereflection about the implications of social locations for teaching; (c) to createand sustain communities of inquiry and action among social justice educators;and (d) to articulate warrants for anti-oppressive teaching.
