The Heinz Center's "A Survey of Climate Change Adaptation Planning" examines worldwide adaptation planning resources, looking at eight adaptation plans and 18 adaptation planning efforts. The report says adaptation planning will be critical as city, state and regional planners face challenges, such as sea-level rise, caused by climate change.
Web-based Guidance on the Integration of Biodiversity within Adaptation Planning gathers information and tools from a number of relevant partners. Its purpose is to support Parties as they continue to integrate climate change impacts and response activities through their implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity.
The report concluded that adaptation then is necessary and will bring benefits. The report found that we need to increase the planning capacity of industries, communities and regions so they can engage more effectively in adaptation research and development. We need to communicate our knowledge and develop practical adaptation tools.

The early impacts of climate change have already appeared and scientists believe that further impacts are inevitable, no matter what happens to future global greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, the decisions we make today about infrastructure, health, water management, agriculture, biodiversity and housing will have lasting consequences.
