CEDAC's recommendations to the city are to initiate a small business support system, retain, attract, and develop local businesses, develop effective uses of resources, and to develop effective future-oriented government community partnerships. There were also several taskforces set up to get work started in their particular areas. CEDAC has been successful in creating change in their city. Their work makes it hopeful that other cities in need of reformation could take their lead and affect changes in their own communities.

This article is the start to ongoing research in Lexington Public Schools. It was brought to the superintendents attention that there is an over representation of METCO students in the special-ed program, meaning there is a high number of METCO students requiring special help in one or more subjects. The study uses data from standardized testing, surveys, and past research. The article proposes quite a few different recommendations of where the research should go from here.

Another reason that evidence based policy does not take effect is due to stubborn ideology. When trials prove an intervention to be effective that is controversial, usually for religious reasons, there is strong opposition. Therefore, social practice often remains in place even if it is proven to be ineffective to suit popular thought.

The author uses the example that, even though there is strong evidence that washing hands reduces the spread of infection, death still occurs in hospitals due to doctors failing to wash there hands. If scientific evidence doesn't even get doctors, it will be very difficult to convince policy makers and citizens to change their ways with just data alone. There has been some progress in the criminology field. There is even a Journal of Experimental Criminology to spread the information throughout the field. There is hope that if a little money is spent on randomized trials, social policy will have a better effect on reducing crime and other dangerous behaviors.

Improvement of Off-Task Behavior - 0 views

  •
This action research project's purpose was to decrease off-task behavior in elementary and high school students using Cooperative Learning Strategies. This method of keeping students focused was interesting to me because I typically think of students' off-task behavior as being distracted or chatting with peers, but this method actually promotes working with peers in groups. It teaches collaboration along with social skills in the process.

Conscious Discipline - 0 views

  •
This researcher asked the question, "What effect will Conscious Discipline behavioral teaching strategies have on reducing the incidence of the aggressive acts of young children in child care settings?". Conscious Discipline is a management system and emotional intelligence program that teaches educators and parents how to respond rather than react to life events. The researcher utilizes surveys, interviews, and direct observation in order to collect information. I liked the questioning that she did before beginning her intervention and that by the end of her research, she was able to answer all of them.
