Community Economic Development Advisory Committee (CEDAC) Article
What do we want the economy of the City of York to look like in 5 years?

This article is about everything we have learned thus far in the AR Plan. It is about an action that was accomplished in a collaborative approach with its devoted diverse community that cared enough to change the economic stagnation problems that had existed for far too long. This particular community decided to rejuvenate their local economy by becoming self sufficient. They developed an advisory committee (CEDA) then began planning by first looking at four successful economic development programs and explored their process of changing the economy. They looked to see what others have done (just as I am doing in my own plan of action research). The participants in the committee followed four different phases of action, which was a process consisting of other major components. They utilized focus questions to guide their actions (epicycles within cycles). They used creative thinking and brainstormed their future vision and critical thinking by identifying blocks implementing them into their vision; they also illuminated the background by addressing the underlying obstacles that moved them further toward their vision. The Committee set realistic goals as to what can be accomplished within a five year time frame and succeeded in their vision.

The article references various extraneous factors within the study's such as misleading information or exaggerated information regarding the risk of pregnancy or HIV transmission when condoms are being used in the study. It reminds me of the rediculous food labels we have to look at when we grocery shop ...unfortunately.

Too bad politicians feel that they cannot renege on a policy that has been proven ineffective for the well being and sake of others. Policy makers need to connect with peer reviewed evidence- based research and see what was effective before rushing the policy into place.

This year I decided to have commercials in my classroom during the students 15 minute break period. This was a great way for me to incorporate some humor into the curriculum without imposing on the student's class time. I found the students did not want to leave the class because they were laughing and having fun. Here is one very short example of a quick laugh. 30 seconds.
