We have an opportunity in course design, to bring all of the stake-holders to the table. Course design should not just be up to a dept. or a single teacher. Course development can be an opportunity to bring in a librarian, someone from student advising, disabled student services and programs, and developmental education. A course design process can show an instructor how to connect their classroom with other students, instructors, and experts in the field. It can be an opportunity to connect students with professional networks as well as other colleges and schools.  What I have been finding is that when you bring everyone to the table to talk about a course, you can discover many different ways to connect your course to the community than you would have ever thought of yourself.

Any author (with or without a disability) can use the Accessibility Checker feature to find potential accessibility issues and instructions for how to fix them. This article provides details on the issues the Accessibility Checker looks for, and gives some information on how to resolve them. Through notifications in the Backstage View and a task pane that helps authors navigate to, and resolve issues in their file, the purpose of the Accessibility Checker is to help authors improve the accessibility of documents, spreadsheets, and presentations that they create.

learner-centric and accessible formatting
well-defined learning outcomes/objectives
inclusion of required policies: accommodations for students with disabilities, academic honesty, course evaluations, etc.

Christian Boer, a typographer at the firm Studiostudio, based in the Netherlands, has designed a special font for people with dyslexia. The font, called "Dyslexie," uses specially shaped letters to exaggerate some of the differences between letters that dyslexics find hard to see.
