How many 7th Graders can say they best selling authors? Well this group of kids from Woodlawn Beach Middle School in Northern Florida can thanks to their teacher Andrea Santilli and iBooks Author. *We are going to have this on our new imacs. AR SPOT is an augmented-reality authoring environment for children. An extension of MIT's Scratch project, this environment allows children to create experiences that mix real and virtual elements. Children can display virtual objects on a real-world scene observed through a video camera, and they can control the virtual world through interactions between physical objects. This project aims to expand the range of creative experiences for young authors, by presenting AR technology in ways appropriate for this audience. In this process, we investigate how young children conceptualize augmented reality experiences, and shape the authoring environment according to this knowledge.

OverDrive has different catalogs of eBooks in the OverDrive Marketplace for different libraries.  We're not all seeing the same title or author selections.

"Popular file-hosting site Megaupload, probably known to our readers for a variety of reasons, has been taken down after the FBI charged some of its staff with copyright infringement and "conspiracy to commit racketeering." Seven people have been charged, and four arrested (in New Zealand), and the site itself appears to be down as authorities around the world closed in on the site's resources."

Sometimes teachers and administrators need a kick in the pants to see what they perceive as problems re-framed in a different way. Adam S. Bellow, author of The Tech Commandments, and founder of eduTecher, spoke to a roomful of receptive teachers at the recent ISTE 2011 conference, and demonstrated some of the ironies and contradictions the education system is mired in. And he had some advice.

"The website launched in April with a zinger: Jon Krakauer's 22,000-word expose on the alleged fraud and fabrications of Nobel Peace Prize nominee Greg Mortenson, best-selling author of "Three Cups of Tea." Within three days, Krakauer's piece, "Three Cups of Deceit," had been downloaded by more than 75,000 people."

Osama Bin Laden is not dead; 9/11 was an inside job; and police were slow to tackle this summer's rioters as an excuse to lock up a whole raft of young black men. Conspiracy theories like these are nothing new; opposing views to the official line given by authorities are in fact crucial in exposing deceptions. However, independent think tank Demos says that young people do not know how to navigate this information when it appears on the Internet.
