robots.net - C-3PO Visits St. Louis Star Wars Concert - 0 views

shared by Aasemoon =) on 10 Jan 10 - Cached
  • Anthony Daniels, the actor who brought the droid C-3PO to life in the Star Wars movies, visited St. Louis Thursday for a concert to celebrate the music of the popular Sci-Fi series. Joining the 86-piece orchestra will be several movie props including C-3PO's costume which Daniels said was "ouch" every time. He used tin-snips to make modifications during filming because only he knew exactly where all the pokes, pinches and jabs were.

AVATAR Prequel Coming Soon - Avatar Blog - 1 views

  • The AVATAR script reveals some background about the AVATAR world including sex, drugs and suicide. But lots happens before the movie's events take place and producer Jon Landau says James Cameron wants to write a prequel novel: "Sigourney teaching at the schoolhouse. Jake on Earth, and his back-story and how he came here, and Tommy, Jake's brother." The possibilities are endless. Cameron could flesh out the Na'vi beyond the movie's "noble redskin" stereotypes and even show something besides evil white guys and noble blue guys, but could just as easily blast right-wing critics. Or explain how unobtainium really got its name. Or write himself in as a Na'vi character. The good news: Cameron hopes to have the book done by the end of the year.

January 26, 2010: Haggis, Rewrites, and the Soliciting Your Opinions. « Josep... - 1 views

  • Today’s blog entry may be offensive to sensitive Scotsmen and/or Scotswomen.  Reader discretion is strongly advised – especially if you’ve ever worn a kilt. Yesterday, on my way to dinner with Marty and co., I stopped by my local butcher shop and picked up a fresh haggis, determined to finally sample the Scotland’s national dish (I thought it was the deep-fried chocolate bar.  That shows you how much I know).  For those of you not in the know, haggis is comprised of various minced sheep’s innards (ie. lungs, liver, and heart), beef and/or mutton fat, oatmeal, onion, and spices stuffed into a sheep’s stomach, served steamed or boiled with a side of turnips and rutabagas.

GateWorld » Wright reveals origins of Stargate Universe - 0 views

  • “The germ of Stargate Universe began as a movie by Robert Cooper, as do many of our ideas,” Wright told the magazine. “We always come up with a movie, pitch it to MGM, and they say, ‘Terrific, let’s make it a TV show.’  When we were spinning the film idea, we knew deep down that Universe was really a series because it had so much scope.”

New 6 Issue Fringe Comic Series: Tales From The Fringe - 0 views

  • If the Fringe Graphic Novel isn’t enough to satisfy your appetite for the Fringe extended universe, you might be interested in a new six-issue comic miniseries from Wildstorm Comics, titled Tales From The Fringe. The series is said to take place within the Fringe universe, meaning it will explore stories that we might not necessarily see on the show itself, but will add extra context to the Fringe mythology. As with the original comic series, it looks like each issue will contain a main story focusing on our main characters, and a looser second story. The first issue lands June 23rd, 2010, for $3.99. Head past the jump to read the official description from Wildstorm Comics.

GateWorld » Vala Mal Doran comic book due in May - 0 views

  • Dynamite Entertainment is set to launch its new series of Stargate comic books in 2010, starting with Vala Mal Doran #1.  The limited series is set in the SG-1 universe and features the sexy thief played on television by Claudia Black. Series writer Brandon Jerwa talks about the story in a new interview with Comic Book Resources. Jerwa, known for his work on G.I. Joe, Highlander and Battlestar Galactica, revealed that the story will feature a “heist” for which Vala assembles an Ocean’s 11-style group of cohorts. “Vala’s working with a crew of science fiction ne’er-do-wells that are all new to the franchise,” Jerwa told the site. “I’m going to keep the hard details under wraps for now, but let me give you some glimpses into my madness: Vala’s crew has a weirdo alien pilot, an officious robot, a tiger warrior, a midget assassin and a hot chick with a space monkey.” Look for the SG-1 team to be involved too, of course — including Jack O’Neill.

GateWorld » Syfy talks SGU's scheduling strategy - 0 views

  • The wait is almost over!  Exactly four months after “Justice” left us hanging, Stargate Universe fans are eagerly anticipating the show’s return to Syfy Channel in the U.S. this Friday at 9 p.m. (8 Central).  But many want to know:  Why was the mid-season break so long? We asked Stargate fans via Twitter what their ideal length would be for the mid-season break, and got a variety of responses.  But we also heard straight from Syfy’s Craig Engler, Senior V.P. of Syfy Digital, who said, “No mid-season break could mean [32] weeks or more between full seasons.  Basically, every schedule choice has a trade-off. … We split seasons so there are not huge gaps between full seasons.”

One Per Cent: Microbots made to twist and turn as they swim - 0 views

  • Tiny microbots swimming through liquid invariably conjures up images of Isaac Asimov's sci-fi classic Fantastic Voyage. But while microbots exist, and they can be made to swim, it's getting them to change direction that has been tricky so far - a bit of an issue if you're even planning on sticking them in a human body, for instance. Now a system used to propel swimming microbots without the need for on-board fuel has brought this idea one step closer. Researchers at North Carolina State University have coaxed their bots to perform U-turns on command.
