"SMEs; Virtual research and development (R&D) teams and new product development: A literature review Nader Ale Ebrahim, Shamsuddin Ahmed and Zahari Taha Additional contact information Post-Print from HAL Abstract: Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are indeed the engines of global economic growth. Their continued growth is a major subject for the economy and employment of any country. Towards that end, virtual research and development (R&D) could be a viable option to sustain and ease the operations of SMEs. However, literature shows there has not been a great deal of research into the diverse characteristic of virtual R&D teams in SMEs. This article provides a comprehensive literature review on different aspects of virtual R&D teams collected from the reputed publications. The purpose of the literature review is to provide an outline on the structure and dynamics of R&D collaboration in SMEs. Specifying the rationale and relevance of virtual teams, the relationship between virtual R&D team for SMEs and new product development (NPD) has been examined. It concludes with identifying the gaps and feebleness in the existing literature and calls for future research in this area. It is argued to form of virtual R&D team deserves consideration at top level management for venturing into the new product development within SMEs. "Toward a General Model of Knowledge Creation in Virtual Teams Kamphol Wipawayangkool (kamphol.wipawayangkool@mavs.uta.edu) Additional contact information Journal of Information & Knowledge Management (JIKM), 2009, vol. 08, issue 01, pages 45-51 Abstract: Virtual teams have made such an impact on organisations' knowledge management. As a result, the phenomenon of knowledge creation in virtual teams obviously deserves researchers' attention. Nonetheless, literature on virtual teams has not been much theory-grounded. Thus, to explore the influence of virtual teams on knowledge creation and fill the scarcity of theoretical foundation in the literature, this paper firstly proposes a theoretical model of knowledge creation process in virtual teams called Adaptive Social-Externalisation by primarily drawing from Nonaka's Organisational Knowledge Creation theory as well as Adaptive Structuration theory and Agency theory. Secondly, the characteristics of the process are also derived as Adaptiveness, Simultaneity, and Goal Congruency and Information Symmetry and can be used to determine the effectiveness of both knowledge creation and overall performance of a virtual team. Both theoretical and practical implications are then discussed. The ever-growing quantity of collaborative data sources has resulted in the requirement for efficient approaches to create, integrate and retrieve information more efficiently in an environment where the users ask for accurate information. The main research challenge of the current work is using manual semantic annotation in a highly accurate closed domain, a conceptual domain with a minimal set of concepts where the benefits of adding semantics, search efficiency, optimization and the cost estimations are viable. This paper presents a semantic annotation approach for highly accurate closed domain based on multi-ontology annotation (domain and application ontologies). Crowdsourcing based business models: In search of evidence for innovation 2.0 - 0 views

Email: smarjano@rand.org Abstract Open innovation has gained increased attention as a potential paradigm for improving innovation performance. This paper addresses crowdsourcing, an under-researched type of open innovation that is often enabled by the web. We focus on a type of crowdsourcing where financial rewards exist, where a crowd is tasked with solving problems which solution seekers anticipate to be empirically provable, but where the source of solutions is uncertain and addressing the challenge in-house perceived to be too high-risk. There is a growing recourse to crowdsourcing, but we really know little about its effectiveness, best practices, challenges and implications. We consider the shift to more open innovation trajectories over time, define crowdsourcing as an open innovation model, and clarify how crowdsourcing differs from other types of 'open' innovation (e.g. outsourcing and open-source). We explore who is crowdsourcing and how, looking at the potential diversity and core features and variables implicated in crowdsourcing models. Key words crowdsourcing open innovation models"

Individens arbetstillfredsställelse i virtuella team - Lund University - 0 views

  • Title Individens arbetstillfredsställelse i virtuella team Author/s Hanna Cederlund, Vicky Löw Department/s Department of Psychology Full-text Available as PDF Publishing year 2013 Abstract Swedish Denna uppsats har undersökt huruvida graden av virtuell kommunikation (virtualitet) hos individer i virtuella team har ett samband med arbetstillfredsställelse. • Home » Stages of candidature » Communicating research » Publishing on internet Publishing on internet Research overview & references Jim Cumming, a recent ANU doctoral candidate, suggests that with the development of the internet has come a range of communication methods for researchers. These include: Blogs Research websites where papers are posted prior to formal publication Online journals Wikis Skype An interesting development at the doctoral level in recent years has been a steady growth in the practice of blogging, whereby the experiences of candidates are not only documented but also publicly accessible. To see a range of blogs compiled by PhD candidates, supervisors and anything PhD related, visit PhDs.org. As part of my own doctoral research I have observed a 100 per cent increase in the number of blogs registered on the phdweblogs site during my candidature (2004-07). My notes reveal the number of blogs registered have been as follows: 285-15 May 2005; 453-17 September 2006; and 500-25 July 2007. An interesting feature of this site is that the number of doctoral blogs in Australia ranks third in the world with 34 PhD blogs, after the USA (194) and the UK (69). Another is the multidisciplinary nature of these blogs. On registering individuals are required to self-select their research area against a broad classification. Unsurprisingly, 'Social Sciences-General' is the top category with 128 posts, however, 'Multidisciplinary' is second with 100. This is inherently interesting given that most other disciplinary classification schemes fail to include inter-, trans-, or multi-disciplinary categories (e.g. RFCD, DEST, ANZIC, SEO, ISI). Intrigued by this online mode of communication and interaction I initiated my own blog-http://doctoralpractices.blogspot.com/ on 5 May 2005. The National Library approached me not long after it was up and running with a view to registering as part of their online database. I maintained the blog until the final stages of my candidature in 2007. During that time I recorded over 30 posts and generated over 3,000 hits. While it did not generate the level of interaction that I envisaged originally, it could be seen as constituting a public record of one candidate's activities. As such it provides an additional point of reference in the field of doctoral education, as well as a potential data source for those researching in the field of doctoral education in years to come.
