"Effective Virtual Teams for New Product Development Nader Ale Ebrahim, Department of Engineering Design and Manufacture, Faculty of Engineering, University of Malaya Shamsuddin Ahmed Salwa Hanim Abdul Rashid Zahari Taha Abstract At present, the existing literature shows that the factors which influence the effectiveness of virtual teams for new product development are still ambiguous. To address this problem, a research design was developed, which includes detailed literature review, preliminary model and field survey. From literature review, the factors which influence the effectiveness of virtual teams are identified and these factors are modified using a field survey. The relationship between knowledge workers (people), process and technology in virtual teams is explored in this study. The results of the study suggest that technology and process are tightly correlated and need to be considered early in virtual teams. The use of software as a service, web solution, report generator and tracking system should be incorporated for effectiveness virtual teams. "Workplace Innovation and Technological Change Downloads: 117 If you don't have Adobe Reader, you can download it here Author(s): Miroslav Beblavý, Ilaria Maselli, Elisa Martellucci In: Social welfare policies, CEPS Special Reports Date of publication: 14 September 2012 Pages: 91 File type: pdf 5.12 MB Can't download? Download This paper explores the extent to which that elusive phenomenon called "workplace innovation" has pervaded workplaces in Europe and whether it could be one of the answers to Europe's long-term social and economic challenges that stem from an ageing workforce and the need for more flexibility to stay competitive. Basic data drawn from European Working Conditions Survey conducted every five years by the Dublin-based European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions are supplemented by a series of case studies to look at the problems encountered in introducing workplace innovation and possible solutions. One set of case studies examines the following organisations: SGI/GI (Slovak Governance Institute (Slovakia), as representative of the world of small- and medium-sized enterprises; Oticon (Denmark) as representative of manufacturing companies; the Open University (UK), as representative of educational organizations; and FPS Social Security (Belgium) representing the public sector. Two final case studies focus on the country-level, one looking at of how a specific innovation can become fully mainstreamed (in the Netherlands and the 'part-time economy') and the other (Finland and TEKES) looking at how a government programme can help disseminate workplace innovation. These six case studies, together with the statistical analysis, constitute the main empirical value added of the report. All three authors are economists at CEPS in the Economic Policy research unit. Miroslav Beblavý is also Associate Professor of Public Policy at the Comenius University in Bratislava and a Member of the Slovak Parliament."

  • Contribution of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Country'S H-Index Authors: Maryam Farhadi (IAU, Mobarakeh), Hadi Salehi (UKM), Mohamed Amin Embi (UKM), Masood Fooladi (IAU, Mobarakeh), Hadi Farhadi (UKM), Arezoo Aghaei Chadegani (IAU, Mobarakeh), Nader Ale Ebrahim (UM) (Submitted on 13 Nov 2013) Abstract: The aim of this study is to examine the effect of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) development on country's scientific ranking as measured by H-index. Moreover, this study applies ICT development sub-indices including ICT Use, ICT Access and ICT skill to find the distinct effect of these sub-indices on country's H-index. To this purpose, required data for the panel of 14 Middle East countries over the period 1995 to 2009 is collected. Findings of the current study show that ICT development increases the H-index of the sample countries. The results also indicate that ICT Use and ICT Skill sub-indices positively contribute to higher H-index but the effect of ICT access on country's H-index is not clear. "International Journal of Technology, Knowledge and Society Volume 9, Issue 1, 2013, Pages 73-90 Multiagent systems as a team member (Article) Turner, J.R. Applied Technology and Performance Improvement (ATPI) Program, University of North Texas, United States View references (38) Abstract With the increasing complex business environment that organizations have to operate in today, teams are being utilized to complete complex tasks. Teams are capable of completing complex tasks that no one individual can achieve. Effective team decision-making requires team members to discuss new information (unshared knowledge) and to consider this new information along with existing information (shared knowledge). Research has shown that shared knowledge is favored over unshared knowledge during team discussions. One method of transferring unshared knowledge to shared knowledge is to take advantage of new multiagent systems that are designed to support teams. Multiagent systems are capable of filtering information without the bias toward shared information over unshared information. This paper takes a theoretical approach supporting the use of multiagent systems as a means to increase the effectiveness of team decision-making processes by better capturing shared and unshared information. © Common Ground, John R.
