The idea of media literacy prompts an increasingly divisive debate between educators who wish to protect children from the commercialization of global markets and those who challenge critical media studies as misguided, outdated, and ineffective. We have provided a historical overview of changing conceptions of media literacy as preparation and protection in market society, arguing that contemporary concerns about children's fast food marketing and sedentary lifestyles call for new approaches to the education of citizen-consumers in a risk society. Our case study demonstrates that a media education programme can provide scaffolding for children's critical thinking about their sedentary lifestyles and media consumption. There has been an overwhelming increase in the use of text messaging, and in some cases young adults use messages more than talking. Two studies were performed trying to determine if there is a relationship, because not much research has been completed. On top of that most of the research has yielded different results. These two studies did not see a connection between the use of textisms and formal writing, but it did between the use of textisms and informal writing.

Discusses a study released by researchers at Case Western Reserve University that found a correlation between amount of time teenagers spent text messaging and social networking and their propensity to participate in risky behaviors such as drinking, smoking, doing drugs, and having sex. Techonological advances have changed the way we learn in many ways; however, this does not necessarily mean that it has been chagned in positive ways. The common misconception is that anything new and improved is always beneficial; this article shows that it's not always the case.

Budget cuts lead to art teachers and programs being cut. In general the authors try to emphasize the benefits of the arts to individuals. They use a quote from Bill Gates at the beginning to start off the article and enforce this point.
