Cycling in France is a way of life. It is not for nothing that the world's greatest cycling event takes place in France. French people love cycling and not just as a sport, but as the leisure activity par excellence.

Cycling has become an up and coming sport for Americans during the last two decades. Many American professionals, including Lance Armstrong, Greg Lemond, and George Hincapie, have done wonders for growing the sport of cycling in America. They have inspired many juniors to get on their bike and ride in hopes of maybe participating in the most competitive cycling event in the world, the Tour De France.

Sport is now big business and most conceivable sports are professional. However, it is considered a poor show if professional athletes stretch the rules in order to succeed. The Tour de France cycling race has suffered in recent years because of the numerous drug scandals. This has had a very detrimental effect of professional cycling. Drugs and stimulants have no place in sport. Their use is simply outrageous cheating.

Though the pros use shorter street cycling races as practice for the Triple Crown races (Tour de France, Giro d'Italia and the Road World Cycling Championship), there are many teams that compete in street races.
