Bashin speaking at Pattamangalam in Sivaganga district near Madurai recently said that the bank would be opening 1,525 ultra small branches comprising one clerk, one laptop and one rural development officer.

A workshop on urban governance was organized in Kolkata on Tuesday where chairpersons and mayors of several municipalities and municipal corporations of the state were present. The progress of schemes that was discussed in the meeting were the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission ( JNNURM) scheme, Swarna Jayanti Sahari Rojkar Yojona scheme, the urban livelihood mission scheme, housing for urban poor, national social assistance programme and the BSUP schemes.

In a bid to make e-ticket booking easier, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has decided to launch a scheme allowing passengers to reserve seats against advance money kept with the corporation. Currently there are about 4.5 lakh train tickets booked daily through IRCTC website. Under the Rolling Deposit Scheme, a user can deposit money in advance with IRCTC and use it as a payment option amongst the other payment options available on IRCTC website for paying money at the time of booking tickets.

India's largest telco Bharti Airtel has tied up with Microsoft to sell the software giant's office productivity suite to small and medium businesses in India. For Airtel, the partnership will help boost its intent to derive a larger portion of revenue from data services and for Microsoft, the tie-up will give it easy access to a large pool of potential customers in India who prefer to pay for software based on what they use instead of the traditional model of high upfront investment for licences.

Andhra Pradesh is poised to add 200 MW of wind power farms shortly and has accorded clearance for 2,636 MW of wind power generation capacity, according to Minnie Mathew, Chief Secretary, Andhra Pradesh. Delivering her inaugural address at the CII Conference, she said the State currently has an installed capacity of 197 MW of wind energy and plans to lay special thrust on boosting generation capacity from renewable energy sources. She said the State Government is working on a tariff mechanism for renewable energy which will make it lot more attractive for wind and solar power generation companies.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has appealed to all citizens to enrol themselves for the National Population Register. All permanent residents of the state need to comply, and will be handed over a resident identity card with Aadhaar identification.

Admitting to difficulties in identifying people using Web sites to spread communal hatred, the Government said it was working with social networking sites to create an institutional mechanism to prevent misuse of technology. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will enroll an additional 40 crore residents for Aadhaar cards by March, 2014, minister of state for planning Ashwani Kumar said on Thursday. "UIDAI was earlier mandated to enroll 20 crore residents which has been completed and enrolment of additional 40 crore residents mandated to be completed by March 2014, has commenced," the Kumar said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha. Aadhaar card issued by UIDAI provides a soft identity infrastructure which can be used for better and efficient delivery of public services, he said, adding that enrolment for Aadhaar is voluntary not mandatory

Being the oldest varsity in the state, the University of Mysore's move is expected to make it a paperless system. Sources revealed that the move has been planned in order to deal with the staff shortage facing the varsity. According to plans, Crawford Hall, the administrative headquarters of the university and other departments including academic sections would be included under the e-governance. Pursuing the plan, a blue print has been prepared to turn e-governance into reality.
