Indian Chana futures ended steady as rising supplies from the new season crop offset concerns over production due to untimely rainfall in key producing areas. Total OI continued to increase but Volumes declined on Wednesday compared to the previous trading day. China's copper imports fell 2.8 percent in June from the previous month, hitting a 4-month low as weak seasonal demand dampened buying amid a slow domestic economy. China's export sales unexpectedly rose for the first time in four months in June and imports fell again but posted their best performance this year, causing some optimism tepid trade flows are picking up. Earnings season is starting to ramp up today with the release of JP Morgan Chase numbers. The bank reported a 4% drop in third-quarter earnings, which wasn't a surprise.

Silver was up 0.2 percent at $1,169.26 an ounce. The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits rose only modestly last week, indicating the labor market remained on solid footing despite slowing economic growth. Initial claims for state unemployment benefits increased 1,000 to a seasonally adjusted 291,000 for the week ended March 14, the Labor Department said on Thursday. Claims for the prior week were revised to show 1,000 more applications received than previously reported. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast claims rising to 292,000 last week. A Labor Department analyst said there was nothing unusual in the state-level data. Claims have bounced around for much of the winter as harsh weather either depressed or boosted filings.
