All sectoral indices ended lower, with BSE Realty index emerging as the top loser down 2.2% followed by the IT and Metal indices among others.Metal companies witnessed profit taking to end lower yesterday. Hindalco Industries, Tata Steel, Vedanta and Jindal Steel ended down 0.8-4.6% down. Banking shares ended mixed. Midcap and smallcap stocks are worst sufferers. * CNX Midcap index has come down 2.6 per cent to 12725. * BSE Smallcap Index declined by 2.5 percent to 10 840. * All the sectoral indices on the BSE are in the red. * Realty, Consumer Durables,banking, metal and IT stocks have selling pressure. * Sensex fell 533 points or 1.9 percent and trading at 27 279. * Nifty fell 166.5 points or 2 per cent and trading at 8214.5.

The energy sector was broadly higher following a BP report that divided the blame over several major oil companies. The price of oil meanwhile, fell beneath $90 per gallon again today after reaching Tuesday highs in recent trading.

Stocks ended the week in green, ending a four-week streak of losses. Bernanke's speech helped to hold up the market despite no indication of how, when or even if the Fed will step in.

Some of the latest published analysis of Merck indicates a yield of as much as 4.6 percent after three quarters of strong earnings. At its current low-price Merck is gaining appeal.

Stocks gained today, despite choppy trading and a late fade. Financial stocks dragged the broader market lower, however, as softness in the market and EU crisis weighs on investors.

Financial stocks led gainers today as investors closed out a volatile month in the market with a nice rally to take equities back out of the red and into the black.
