In 1869, Armenian land gave birth to a composer, collector of folk songs, priest, music ethnologist, singer, choirmaster, teacher, and founder of the Armenian National Classical Composer School of Komitas. Soghomon Soghomonyan was born in Alatolu, in a family deeply involved in music. As he lost his parents early, his grandmother looked after him until 1881, when Soghomon was chosen among 20 candidates and entered the seminary of Echmiatsin (where he impressed the Catholicos with his singing talent) and finished it in 1893 when he became a monk. Newly ordained priests, according to church traditions, are given new names, and Soghomon was renamed Komitas after a 7th century Armenian Catholicos who was also a hymn writer. In 1893, he obtained the title Vardapet, meaning a priest or a church scholar.

Velvet, trembling voice of duduk today accompanies Hollywood movies. Serious composers write music for duduk. It is all the merit of famous Armenian duduk player Jivan Gasparyan. He lives in Yerevan and travels around the world with concerts. Thanks to him, the extinguished interest to duduk erupted with renewed vigor in the country. Every Armenian boy dreams to be like Uncle Jivan.

In October 2009, Armenians celebrated the 2791st anniversary of Yerevan. It is the oldest city in the country. Prior to Yerevan becoming the capital of Armenia since 1918, there were 11 other historical capitals of Armenia: Van, Ani, Armavir, Yervandashat, Artashat, Tigranakert, Vagharshapat, Dvin, Bagaran, Shirakavan, and Kars. Sis was the capital of the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia. Tourism has been a key sector to the Armenian economy since the 1990s as half a million people visit the country ever year, mostly ethnic Armenians from the Diaspora. Tourism has been growing gradually in Armenia since 2000. The Republic of Armenia Ministry of Economy declared that 575,281 tourists visited Armenia in 2009, 3% more than the estimated index for 2008. 5% growth was predicted for 2010 as the world economy stabilizes. Armenia is an intriguing tourist destination. Numerous monuments and masterpieces of the Ancient era and Middle Ages can be found throughout the country. Tourism in Armenia is rooted in the country's historical landmarks and natural attractions.

The biography of Aram Khachaturian, greatest Armenian composer of the 20th century, is very interesting. The promising composer knew a lot of melodies and loved to sing still from childhood, accompanying himself on folk percussion instruments. Ballet "Spartacus" was the greatest work of Khachaturian after the war.

Alexander Tamanyan designed the ensemble of Republic Square of Yerevan. Originally conceived as an oval, then it got a more complicated form - a combination of the oval with the trapeze. In the creation of volume-spatial forms of the square are involved five buildings - Government House, House of Ministries, the hotel "Armenia", House of the Unions and the Post House, the building of the Museum Complex. Construction of the square launched in 1926. The Government House of the Armenian SSR (architect A. Tamanyan) is a polygon with an inner courtyard in the map. One of the sides of the polygon is oval, with the main entrance facing the eastern part of the Square.
