In October 2009, Armenians celebrated the 2791st anniversary of Yerevan. It is the oldest city in the country. Prior to Yerevan becoming the capital of Armenia since 1918, there were 11 other historical capitals of Armenia: Van, Ani, Armavir, Yervandashat, Artashat, Tigranakert, Vagharshapat, Dvin, Bagaran, Shirakavan, and Kars. Sis was the capital of the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia. Church of St. Hovhannes-Mkrtich was built in 1710 on the hilltop of Kond district in Yerevan, at the site of the medieval church destroyed by the earthquake. A wealthy citizen of Yerevan, Melik Aghamal, took over the expenditure of the construction of the church. Like Churches of St. Pogos Petros, St. Zoravor and St. Katoghike of late Middle Ages, St. hovhannes-Mkrtich is of the type of three-nave basilica with a prayer room, the main altar and the two sacristies on the east side.

Alexander Tamanyan designed the ensemble of Republic Square of Yerevan. Originally conceived as an oval, then it got a more complicated form - a combination of the oval with the trapeze. In the creation of volume-spatial forms of the square are involved five buildings - Government House, House of Ministries, the hotel "Armenia", House of the Unions and the Post House, the building of the Museum Complex. Construction of the square launched in 1926. The Government House of the Armenian SSR (architect A. Tamanyan) is a polygon with an inner courtyard in the map. One of the sides of the polygon is oval, with the main entrance facing the eastern part of the Square.

When I was about to go to Armenia, I was told, "Make sure you try Sevan trout. There is no other tastier fish in the world! I found a fish range just at the entrance of the central market in Yerevan.

Velvet, trembling voice of duduk today accompanies Hollywood movies. Serious composers write music for duduk. It is all the merit of famous Armenian duduk player Jivan Gasparyan. He lives in Yerevan and travels around the world with concerts. Thanks to him, the extinguished interest to duduk erupted with renewed vigor in the country. Every Armenian boy dreams to be like Uncle Jivan.
