External screen for macbook - 2 views

  Hi all, I'm looking to buy an external monitor for my macbook pro (2016, Catalina). I am really inexperienced when it comes to buying hardware so I was wondering if there were some things to look out for considering compatability and just overall value for money. I looked at some other posts, but they didnt really provide me with answers, they only gave me more questions about docking stations and power supplies, if anyone can clear up when/why those will be necessary that would also be amazing.
  
  Btw my budget is about 400-500 euro, I already have decent external speakers/mouse/keyboard so this would be purely for the monitor plus cables/power supply/docking stations if these last things are even necessary. I would like 24-27 inch (bigger is definitely possible but my budget won't allow I suppose) and I will mostly use it for work but also to watch a movie or so from time to time.
