The top two Victorian sides have played in some epic encounters in recent seasons and this should be no exception. Once again there should be no love lost between the two arch rivals.
Hawthorn have had another magnificent season and will enter this match as narrow favourites despite their loss to the Fremantle Dockers last Sunday.
Geelong narrowly defeated Carlton last Friday night and have had an extra two days to recover and should be nice and fresh come Saturday night.
The Cats have won their past eight matches and continue to find a way to win. Joel Selwood has been in stellar form this season and is a great chance to snare the Brownlow Medal.
The skipper has been well supported in recent weeks by Josh Caddy as well as the dangerous pair in Steven Motlop and Allen Christensen and the Cats will be looking for big games from those players.
Hawthorn have won four of their last five including a win over the top of the ladder Sydney Swans but suffered their fifth loss of the season last weekend at the hands of Fremantle by 19 points.
Jordan Lewis has been in superb form for the Hawks as well as fellow leaders Luke Hodge and Sam Mitchell.
The two sides contested the 2013 Preliminary Final, which was a thriller with Hawthorn winning by 5 points. The Hawks snapped an 11 game losing streak against Geelong that night and went on to win the Grand Final.
Geelong bounced back against the Hawks earlier this season and defeated the premiers back in Round 5 by 19 points. Tom Hawkins was a standout that day, booting five goals and has worried the Hawks backline in the past. Despite a quiet couple of weeks, expect the 'Tomahawk' to bounce back this weekend.
